Different personalities and mindsets keep the world interesting though! | I don't know why you would turn off the heat pump during the hottest times of the day.
My SIL bought a Model 3 to save gas. She primarily wfh with a day or two in the office.
And then she's complaining about my bro's condo being too small and wanting a townhouse.

Us chinese people are great at not being able to see the forest for the trees.
I have family who wanted to purchase another house during covid, but couldn't find a name and didn't want to eventually pay cap gains. Would've pocketed $300k even after paying taxes but instead made nothing to save on taxes.

Lol my MIL regularly tells us to try not to make more money because that's more money we have to pay in tax.
And my sister used to say she was fighting against a raise because she didn't want to pay one cent into the next tax bracket.
What the heck are you talking about, and why are you saying it so confidently?!

What the heck are you talking about, and why are you saying it so confidently?! | Some of the guys I work with refuse to do any OT claiming it is mostly taxed lol. They don't understand that once they max out their yearly contributions earlier, they will be able to take home more $$$. Financial literacy is definitely lacking :/

Rental property since day 1. Didn't want to pay potential $300k capital gain tax. Could've walked away with 1.5m + the rental income they pocketed since paying off mortgage. Now they don't want to sell and can't raise either tenants rent, collecting combined $3k a month from both upstairs and downstairs tenants.

Here's a quick snap shot of my power usage.
Majority of the off peak power usage is coming from charging one car, dish washer and laundry machines
As for the heat pump, it runs for most of the day, probably 60%?
The culprit of the peak hour usage is only the stove and hood fan.
I haven't lived in the laneway house long enough to gather data on my actual usage
I remember the most recent winter, my hydro bill was $700 bucks over a two month period, that includes heating the home with the heat pump and charging two cars
EDIT: had to clarify, winter bill was 700 bucks over two months

I'm asking if it's half because we have heatpumps at home and we mostly just use them for heating and our power bill was about 300 every month, but we are in a not so well insulated house and you are in a new laneway.

Charge your car elsewhere so you don't see the charges on your hydro bill.

^ I see a lot more used Model S with free supercharging, that's got to be a real bonus! Some are listing for $25-30K ... you gotta think that's a decent price for a commuter if you can live with a bit older tech.

I thought certain models you can just upgrade the computers. I was looking into those too, but I don't drive enough to save that much on gas

So over all, maybe it contributes to 1/3 of my electricity costs?

Our strata charges $37.50 per month to have EV charging at your stall. We have no way of tracking usage per stall though, so I imagine some people who drive less are subsidizing those who drive more.

It's a 14-30 outlet, so cars are limited to charge at 25 amps or so. This was the original price we set in 2020. It could be time to increase the rate at next year's AGM, but we don't have any data on usage so it would just be a wild guess.

it's tough; there's no way to meter it unless huge infrastructure is put in place.
we constantly get tenants complaining someone is plugging it into a regular outlet = strata has to pay etc .... complaints goes on a blind eye.. but what can they do other than a warning letter.
