That pemberton house is unreal.
Thats what dreams are made of. Solitude, gorgeous properties and view. Absolutely unreal.
Funny how everyone has their own opinions.

Funny how everyone has their own opinions. | Agreed - while again it's not my idea of a dream home, I can agree that it's a beautiful place.

+1. That house in Pemberton is beautiful. A quality build for sure. I had a good look of the home using the virtual tour of the house at rew.ca.
A dream garage in this house.
Is this house for every type of buyer? Of course not. A three bedroom and fourth bathroom house may not be what every buyer is looking for in a $15 million home.

Lol at "buttfuck nowhere"
It's 20 minutes from one of the top 3 ski resorts in North America, and MAX 2 hours from Vancouver. It's not fuckin northern Manitoba.

^That house is beautiful. Though I imagine the insurance and long term maintenance costs are steeper than what most are willing to pay.

My grandparents had a neighbour in Surrey of all places who had a beautiful west coast modern style home like that, was totally out of place but a similar environment right in the forest like that, I went inside as a kid a couple times and the inside of that home looks just as I remember the neighbours being
With that said, yes, their home and presumably any like it require a tonne of upkeep and the general wear and tear of being in a forest like that is huge

lol do you like fucking anything at all?
It's 55 years old. I'm sure there's been a storm in that period and it's standing.
And to those that know how to have a normal conversation above, I'm sure you guys are right about maintenance. I'd bet heating these homes, and probably having to deal with moisture problems from that era would be a LOT. However, it does seem like a lot of house for the price so I feel like putting that into the budget isn't terrible. Either way I'm far too peasant for detached.

I don’t think (or hope) anyone buying a home like that would have any illusions as to what it entails
I’m curious to see if the old neighbours house still exists.. my grandparents have long since moved, will have to check it out next time I’m over there. Someone spent a pretty penny in the late 80’s early 90’s to build it I’m sure

You'd be amazed how deluded people can be lol. Just look at all the people who want 100+ year old homes til they realize what a PITA that makes everything. That said I would think it'd be mostly the same amount of maintenance as any other detached from that era, maybe a bit more work with the wood siding?

The amount of balling ass houses going up in the mountains/hills of Pemberton is insane.
Every time I'm driving back from my buddy's cabin I'm in awe of how many new mountain mansions are popping up out there.
Once you leave Mt Currie, you'll see them in the hills everywhere, all fairly new.

Location wise it’s still stupid. Whistler is already far enough… no let’s go even further…. To get away from….. other rich schmucks ?!?!? What’s the logic here ? To be a king amongst peasants ? So chief Blackhawk of the feathers not dot Indians will invite you to his sweat lodge and give you a cedar box full of hemp ?
You might as well start building 20 million dollar places in Prince Rupert. This shit is borderline Elon.
This is one kooky ass white guy. Even if I were to retire there, why in gods name would I pick a one horse town like that ?! I could move to New Zealand. Australia. Anywhere. Why there ? Why 15 mil ? This blows my mind.
Hey come for a visit! Okay it’s only 2h away 5h if there’s a fatality along the sea to sky or god forbid it snows in the mountains. While you’re here make sure you pickup the best Safeway products in town cuz that’s all there is to eat otherwise we gotta drive back down to whistler. …. Yah fuck you

I think you can seaplane downtown in 10-20 minutes?
At least that's what they advertised at Nick North when I was golfing there.

The few people I know worth 50+ have no timelines for anything. Spend months at a time doing anything they want, have people to manage their businesses and only have to interact with them remotely.
The idea of travel time being an issue is a problem for the poors lol
Even my old boss probably worth 10-15 dabbled with the idea of buying a remote place and getting a float plane to get to it

It lets you be 30 mins to Whistler without having to deal with the peasant traffic from Van getting in your way. If you've got a $15M house you're getting groceries delivered and you're not going into town for much. It's not for everyone but for someone with the right hobbies it's a primo spot. Quote:

I will say though Pemberton is quite a bit further from Whistler than I had remembered
Went and played big sky last summer and was surpsied how long it took to get there

Probably because it takes an hour to drive through Whistler now instead of 10 minutes due to the dumbfuckery that goes on there now. Whistler was definitely one of my favourite places to be 10 years ago, but it's way too fucking busy to feel like a vacation now. Probably why that guy is moving now. Gonna go live in revy or something where the snow isn't tracked out in the first hour of opening.

Well clearly you're not rich enough if you have to share the snow with the poors, you buy your own mountain and build a private track. pay $15m and you still have to share the mountain.
Also the sea plane shit freaks me out. You hear those dinky plane crashes every few months. Or you end up like kobe. Whistler weather isn't the best for flying year round I don't think.

32acres for solitude? That's peasant talk.
Here's one that my F&F was looking to buy together as a consortium last year. https://www.kelownanow.com/watercool...0said%20Ruttan.
The value was there and I think for 15M, it was still a very good deal but more than what we could put together. Land as far as your eyes can see and more are yours in any direction, and the house was quite beautiful as the cherry on top.
I think it's a way better option than Pemberton for the same 15M.

Small world, I have been in the design studio (now garage) of that Pemberton property. The owners are incredibly humble, smart, hardworking, and nice people. I knew one of the owners raced cars but I wasn’t quite aware of the level of racing he was in to

The Pemberton place is just a vacation home, not some long play for foreign investment
I went on a deep dive a few years ago looking to huge properties around cache creek/70 mile, obviously not as good of a location as this, but when I was looking you could get 100/200/300 acre parcels for a million or so. Seemed like an amazing deal for the amount of land you could get.. but then it just kinda felt like, for what?
Feels a little yucky wealthy people just amassing huge swaths of land for leisure or simply to hold it

This is the difference between people that have money and people who are rich.
This Pemberton ranch is for someone that's rich. This guy is rich in every definition. It's not some long play investment. This guy is fuckin living. Racing Porsches, beautiful home, some of the most incredible landscape on earth surrounding him. None of this "I'm buying here because it's going to make me money" They bought it cause they like it. Guy is richer than Elon when it comes to actual success.
