Yea.. my wife’s grandma was 97 and she financed her burial etc. at that Central Park cemetery along with the rest of her family, old school catholic but what a ducking waste of money.

My wife had to deal with everything as she was the only competent person left to deal with it and the amount of bullshit extra charges etc. are disgusting.

The funeral home associated with the cemetery is suppose to take care of everything, all inclusive plan, and then fast forward 2 weeks after the funeral and the fucking priest phones my wife and asks where the “tip” is because the funeral home never paid him.

Fuck everything about it.

My parents have bought plots for themselves already and prepaid for a service package. Reality hit when my grandma had her stroke for the first time in 2014 and they bought a space for my grandma, and a double spot for themselves.

My mom said to buy my brother and I a spot as well, but my dad told her to let us deal with our own shit.

My wife's parents on the other hand, has nothing. I understand I think wife's mom wants to be buried back in China with her mom (wife's grandma). Her dad said to just scatter his ashes in the ocean as he likes to travel and they weren't planning to get buried together. It's a bit of a taboo subject with them as if we don't talk about it, then it won't happen. Not very realistic. But they semi kicked my wife out when she was 25 because they simply didn't have enough space at home and needed to stop sharing a room with her sister. My wife is a little bitter about it and she's kind of taken a stance of "it's her sister's problem, not her's"

I don't know the last time my or any of her 7 (now 5 remaining) siblings have ever visited, let alone any of my 15 cousins...

My grandparents are at Forest Lawn and for maybe the first 10 years we went semi-regularly but I don't think I've been in over 10 years. At some point you're forgotten and it doesn't matter if you're in the ground or in an urn. My wife talks about wanting a nice view for when people visit (!!!) which I think is nuts. Like when was the last time she visited her great aunt (also at Forest Lawn)?

Burial plots is good real estate chat though - my last boss is out of Saskatoon and she told me her dad's plot was free and she pays $100/yr to have someone cut the grass around the plot. She was shocked that a hole in the ground in Vancouver starts at $40k (and that's not even a double decker). Even in death land costs crazy money here.

Since we all seem to be want the cheapest method of being interred perhaps we do a group buy of a hole in the ground - RS Mass Grave anyone? Asians in one pile, whites in another, and everyone else in another pile.

Given the trajectory of how everything is going, I think we should crowdfund ourselves and create a fucking retirement home for RS members in the middle of nowhere with a track built right next to it.

Same same I've already made it clear go cheap just burn me no casket. I already bought one for wifey and I last year at Ocean View, my parents, sister, and all of my aunts and uncle on my moms side have all secured spots at Ocean View over the years so we're set for now. My kids can figure it out on their own later in life. But damn it's like real estate, both my parents and sister had bought, sold, and re bought at least once already though they never went into it with a mindset of making money they simply saw an opportunity to get a different spot they wanted and it all worked out.
