Canada survived a 0.60 dollar, survived the high-interest environment in the 1980s, crushing recession in the 1990s. The RE bubble may finally burst, but if you have property and can continue to pay the mortgage on it, does it really matter what happens in the market?
Canada will continue to muddle through because it always has. If countries like Canada go truly belly-up, then I'm sure other middling countries like Canada will go belly-up long before Canada does.
The issue is would you want to pay a mortgage of a $500,000 property when its only worth $250,000 face value?
I can appreciate people's desire to seek greener pastures for themselves and family but in reality for every person that wants to leave, there are 2 people waiting to come in......park the financial realities aside, Canada is a great country for our health care, safety, climate, school systems, etc. Europe is not exactly kicking ass in the global economy and hell no I would never live in South America or China!
you are right on many aspects here. canada is a great place, but it's not the only great place.
As for Europe's economy, don't be so quick to judge based on the headlines. For educated people, especially in finance (like myself), the opportunities are abundant and way greater than in Canada (and even in the US for myself, or so I found). Also, Germany (which admittidly is the economic engine of Europe) has full employment - they are having issues filling positions, yet you won't hear that in the news that much around the world (and why would you)
also, on the economy front, for unemployed it is so socialist here that they have amazing benefits (something I personally hate), but it has been explained to me why this system works so well for society on the whole, and you do start to see the benefits to it... don't get me wrong, I pay a top marginal tax rate >50%, which is sickening, but life is very harmonious (until a jihadi goes on a lone wolf crazy attack, *knock wood*)

moving to europe is not that easy for Asians as europe is more xenophobic than Vancouver or Canada for that matter.

Europe has had to live on mass in migration for years now.
Europeans do not like groups that do not integrate, I can understand and appreciate this.
There are HUGE groups of Asians in many cities (especially business cities) throughout Europe. Dusseldorf has one of the largest Japanese communities outside of Japan, Amsterdam has a huge Japanese expact community (>5,000), on top of that a large indian, american, chinese, etc. group of expats / immigrants - difference is, they integrate.
the best place, if you're worried about xenophobia, is london, by far the most multicultural major city in Europe, and huge career opportunities, only downside is you have to live in london (personal opinion) and the cost of living is high, but for a short time, it'd be great for your life (career, cultural, experience, etc.) - plus there are special tax rules if u are on a <2 year temporary placement which makes things a LOT better.
A huge problem with north americans is they read the headline news and conclude that's how life is. What is written about Europe and real life is totally different. From a lifestyle perspective, life is easier here than it was in Vancouver for me, but that's just a personal anecdote

As bad as this sounds, I still have to agree with this guy. I can't say that all millionaires from China are corrupt and just trying to park their money here. Some really just want a better living environment for their family and relatively speaking, Vancouver is still quite cheap compared to other great cities especially with the CAD and interest rates tanking.

I can't afford a direct business flight, it's true. Sadly I live on welfare and it's barely enough money to cover my internet, weed, and deep fried food costs.
It's not my fault though, Canada is such a disaster, terrible educational system and no job prospects.. I was hoping to maybe get a job driving heavy haulers in Ft.Mac but I have like 3 DUI's, turns out having no license makes me ineligible.

I understand your frustrations. But let me clarify something 1. I'm not a Canadian citizen (Im PR and don't ever plan on obtaining citizenship). 2. Your government still owes me money so I can't just stand up and leave yet.
also you need change your perspective. I live a easy and comfortable life both here and in China. It's more of me taking a sacrifice living in a boring underdeveloped country like canada more than anything else.
