Of course I have.
I'll be visiting New York in the new year and staying with my friend in Williamsburg.
Vancouver is quite the playground that caters to the wealthy. This attitude spills over onto the people here, and we Vancouverites really know how to have a good time. (As long as you have the cash!)

I fucking LOVE it here!
I would not love it as much if I were married and trying to afford it here with a wife and kids. It would be much more of a grind then.
For me to live in Vancouver with a wife and kids, and live a relaxed lifestyle, I would probably need to make like $20,000 a month, minimum.

How is this city not fun? Sounds like some Vancouverites out there are having too much fun!! Quote:
According to the Vancouver Police Department, a number of “prowler calls” have been received since the beginning of October. These calls involve various incidents of men masturbating and exposing themselves in public between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Anything with a view of the Eiffel Tower is over $1 million CAD, and those are the ones with square footage of "only" 400 square feet.
But I would totally forgo a view of the Pacific if it meant living in a place like this:
or this:
or how about your own fucking island with a genuine castle:
All three properties are under 3 million Euros. |

The thing about lots of places in europe (I admittedly don't know much about traffic there) it doesn't seem like living in the countryside and commuting is near as outrageous as canada because the land is so much more packed with big cities. Either way, I know snowboarding in chamonix and cooking in a michelin starred restaurant is beginning to call my name much louder than before.

| France risks ?social explosion? over high taxes - FRANCE - TAXATION - FRANCE 24
French President François Hollande's Socialist government is set to impose an extra three billion euros of taxes in 2014, through measures including raising VAT to 20 percent and a new 75 percent tax rate for the country’s top earners (on incomes over one million euros), pushing France’s tax take to 46.5 percent of the economy.
I went on a couple dates with a french girl this summer, she had been here for a few months. While getting to know her, she explained that while things like wine and smokes are cheaper, nearly everything else is twice or three times the cost in France. Also, she claimed crime was much worse, and that many parts of Paris she would not dare venture in after dark. Racial tensions are extremely high over there, and rioting can pop off at any moment. She showed me a few photos from her apartment(something like 200-300 sq ft of falling apart flat for like $1,000 euro a month)of several cars on fire.
Some areas have crazy problems with gypsies as well. If you are female and riding the trains, people WILL snatch-and-run off with your phone, ipod, or purse if you look unprepared for them.
Last I heard she's trying to permanently immigrate here.

It's not a truly fair comparison at all, but I take it as a satirical look at just how stupid we are in this city.
I'm moving back to Europe in the new year. Vancouver is a joke, I'm getting paid way more, have an amazing career growth opportunity... Or I could stay in Vancouver and stagnate
Decision was easy
As for prior comments about "everyone talks about leaving but no one does" - two reasons why, most ppl are just weak people and do not/can not leave their comfort zone
Most also won't leave their family - I can understand this position, I don't want to leave my immediate family, but I am
Ok, one more, most people can't move internationally b/c they aren't educated or skilled enough to be seeked in foreign lands by companies. THe options in Canada (Alberta, Toronto) are pretty shite
Generally ppl are all talk (especially vancouverites) no action - so don't take ppl's lack of moving away as a reflection of how great Vancouver is, it's more of a reflection of how lame ppl are

Do you say this because you're one of the delusional people that think Canada > else?
Based on fact, I can tell you, the economy here stinks. Opportunities elsewhere are abundant, and will provide for huge career growth and significant immediate pay raises and quality of living increases and I currently earn within top 5% of people in Vancouver, based on some recently released surveys (take that information with a grain of salt, I don't believe personally as I can't see how ppl can live the lifestyles they do if I earn more than 95% of ppl)
But then again, based on your comments, I can tell you're mostly sheltered. Such as your Paris comment. Parts of Paris are a dump, your little fuck buddy was probably low brow and lived in a bad neighbourhood - ill advised. Also, yes, huge social and racial tensions all around France, huge problems amongst different religious / immigrant groups.
And yes, French taxes are high - blame socialism, it doesn't work, low working hours, high pay = France. I wouldn't live there.
On the flip side, other European cities are fucking awesome, I will be paying less tax in Europe than here, and we claim to be a 'low tax' jurisidiction, well, that's just not the case.
Also, remember not to compare 20% VAT with our pst/gst system, our system sucks, as we all found out in recent years. VAT is way better.

Do you know anything about the scale of rioting in France?
The Stanley Cup Riots are so incredibly minor to what you find over there.
