No joint accounts here. I earn about double what my wife earns but my income is highly inconsistent so I pay the bulk of the major expenses (house related, bills) while my wife covers the day-to-day (groceries, household) especially when we're out together. Because we're also both self-employed we pay our separate work related expenses. Whatever money that's left we lump into savings wherever there is room.
We've been together 14 years (5 of those married) so I'm sure we discussed joint accounts before but nothing more than passing conversation. Been working fine for us as I figured what's the difference it's the same pool of money anyway. If one of us is short we just ask and move money around and we always run by non-daily expenditures with each other. Though my wife doesn't track her spending and is disorganized I'd rather her handle her own finances just so there's some accountability.

We have an agreed upon amount that goes to joint to cover our expenses.
Recently most of my money started going into the joint to pay for the mortgage we took out for the house.
Generally we discuss large purchases that are more than $500. It's a respect thing as it affects the whole family when you splurge. Car parts not withstanding lol.

I make about 65% of the house hold income so i pay 65% of the house hold expenses. She pays 35%. We add in alittle extra for yearly vacations or unexpected expenses. All comes out of a joint account.
The rest of our money goes into our own personal accounts for us to spend on how we please but like suprafamous said, we discuss big purchases to avoid any disagreements.

Split accounts here and the arrangement is that she takes care of the mortgage and I take care of the rest(Strata fees, Ptaxes, Hydro, Gas, TV, Internet, other streaming services). As for groceries there isn't a designated person but due to my work schedule and me being more available to do the shopping I usually end up paying for most of it. Also I take care of every single thing in the house so when it comes to buying something the house needs from something as simple as replacing the water filter in the fridge to buying a new TV that's me as well. With that said, on paper it looks pretty one sided that she really only pays for 1 thing but in terms of actual dollars it's probably fairly even to be honest.

Interesting topic... did RE slow down already? Haha
We do only 1 joint account. All our pay goes into the account. It’s too hard to keep track what money belong to who especially with 2 kids. We do have separate savings account for RESP and repaying the first time home buyer RRSP loan but again those are joint.

Different frivolous shit at least staggers the costs a bit. If it's the same then you're buying double of everything all at once lol.

Joint account for Housing costs (Mortgage, Strata, PTax)
Separate accounts for everything else but we don't spend much on frivolous shit generally. I usually foot the bill big ticket items for any trips but she'll pay for incidentals. Continuing to Max out RRSP/TFSA, once that's done may consider opening Spousal RRSPs but need to understand the tax implications better. My Salary is about 50-30% higher depending on how much OT she pulls.

Wife makes just as much as me. She'll ETF me every month 2k and add extra for any big bills like property taxes etc.
We both have our own savings and agree not to make big purchases without each other permission.
So far so good. Married myself a bread winner.

Pension however I guarantee if she went into the private sector her salary would double over night for the job she does and the size of team she manages.
We don't pay guys that much less to sweep construction sites, it's criminal lol.
Edit: last year I made 80% more than my wife did but she does have a pension and I do not whatever that's worth. To be fair I also worked two jobs, my day job and subcontracting estimating services on the side for others on weekends and evenings.

I guess ill chime in as well. Me and the wife have our own accounts with one joint account for paying mortgages, bills and joint credit card. We each manage our own personal accounts, credit cards and investments.
Wife made more than me for years until recently where I have caught up and at times making more.
My wife is a little too frugal where I am just happy to see her spend some money on herself from time to time.
Gotta say I married myself a bread winner as well. Been busting my ass off at work to finally get on her pay level.

Ugh I’ve been biting my lip for a couple pages now. I’m the sole income earner, we decided she’d stay home and raise the kids since childcare is expensive af. We have 3 kids.
Well now they’re all in school so she could get a part time job and has thought about it, but hasn’t made the leap. Now she wants a pool. I told her, get a job and save every penny to get yourself a pool. Hell, start a blog/vlog called wifeygetsherpool.com and document it.
Still not there yet. Life would be SO much easier if she made half of what I do, let alone the same amount. Congrats to Ludepower you sunovabitch
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining or calling her out. We made the choice 14 years ago and our youngest just started kindergarten this year. Plus she taxis them to all the ortho appointments etc while I’m busy with work but holy shit I can’t help but read this and think, man it’d be nice if wifey had some income pouring in as well.
But now I guess it’d fill the pool since my dumbass made the offer

Wife and I have a joint account for everything. She makes about 80% of my salary. We first established a joint account and then separate spending accounts when we got married, but I quickly realized that she is as much of a saver as I am. A big purchase for her is a new pair of runners because her old pair is falling apart.
I don't think of it as my money or her money - we are a team and we both trust each other. Also helps that we have the same interests. Any purchases over $100 we run past each other.

Wife makes about 80% of my salary. We have separate accounts and a joint account for our mortgage. I have the majority of the financial knowledge between the 2 of us but we are both pretty frugal and we talk to each other about all purchases so we’ve never felt the need to combine our accounts. We pay expenses like taxes/insurance/utilities according to whom it’s more convenient for (ie. who’s email we used to register online or for reminders). She knows my financial assets, and I know hers. We have a HELOC through her bank, so we just manage it through her.

Haven’t posted in this thread in ages - but just joining in here to add to the data pool as this is a interesting discussion. Wife and I both have our separate accounts and one joint pooled account that we contribute monthly to. Thank god for this because my spending is insane sometimes and hers not so much.
My wife makes 65% of my ‘personal salary’
But only 20% of my total annual salary (personal + corporate - taxes)
Since the corporation is under my name - we’ve decided that the contribution should be 20 her-80 me… and that kind of sucks since I can’t really spend the corporate cash as I will be paying a shit amount in taxes. Some months I feel like I am living in poverty b/c I’m paying our joint account more than I pay myself - thankfully though our joint account is pretty sizable now and we are due for a long awaited vacation.

I get a very nice parental leave at my job but I bet no one will survive past 2 days with only me with 2 kids.
