Shouldn't all new homes and condo come with AC. My friends shiny new Brentwood towers don't have it. Will global warming increasing the city should require it in the building code.q

wut? :concentrate:

Hondaracer 06-28-2021 08:35 AM

People can’t even be trusted to properly operate their heat/fans. No way they would ever introduce building code changes that add another factor for people to deal with/damage adjacent units with etc lol

JDMDreams 06-28-2021 09:02 AM

Any one know how much it will be to add AC? The remote ones with the unit outside and the rectangular wide blower mounted on the wall?

supafamous 06-28-2021 09:14 AM

https://barzelai.ca/blog/f/air-condi...r-conditioning - here's a timely blog post about adding AC. Says about $10k.

winson604 06-28-2021 11:10 AM

AC noob here currently running 3 portable ACs in the townhome. So is the only option for non portable ACs all involve having something installed outside? I know one unit for shot down on request because Strata was concerned about the noise coming from the unit outside. Are there options where you only need to install on the inside of the unit only?

If you propose to strata that you can "box in" a dampen the sound of the heat exchanger, they may allow it. That's an extra expense to you, but it's worth it.

There's no other way around it, you need an external heat exchanger outside and they are loud.

donk. 06-28-2021 11:38 AM

You might aswell not install the outdoor unit at all

In my experience those ones you mount on the wall the big rectangular units aren’t even worth it. They can barely cool “smaller” spaces completely

I’d say either the stand alone units, or you bite the bullet and get that full central air AC if possible. Spending 3/4/5k on those walk mounted units is a half-measure at best in a townhome or detached

Lots of homes have ducting only on certain floors, while the bedrooms are equipped with baseboard heating.

We have some decisions to make as our furnace is reaching end of life, but I'm curious what people are doing to address cooling with mixed heating systems in their homes.

Are you talking about Split AC/Heat pump units?

They need to be sized correctly for their intended use/thermal load of the space.

You can get them northwards of 30,000 BTU out of a single unit which is more than double what even the biggest portable AC unit can do.

Functionally they're no different than a "full central AC" if sized for the same cooling capacity. (IE: a 5 ton "Central" AC is going to no different than a 5 ton "Split AC")

I know of 2 separate mini-split installs within the last month. They were approx $7500 each. Both had 2 wall mounted units. Central ac installed to an existing forced air furnace is approx $3500.

How can all you Revscene ballers not have AC? $250K salary. Cannot get AC. Haiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. So disappoint.

[Edit / Disclaimer: Not to be taken personally or seriously. Reference is an Uncle Roger comedic joke.]

Alpine 06-28-2021 07:59 PM

Well when you are potentially paying $1000/sqft in a virtually brand new condo tower I certainly hope it includes AC lol.

I'm old, Uncle Roger sounds like something that's old I feel I should get the reference but flew right over my head. :)

I think it's an asian thing.............. so you have a good excuse not to know. Also, if you watch this sample of Uncle Tom video, it'll mess you up for life with this fullshit nonsense. It's funny for a total of about three and a half seconds. Then, so boring and predictable.

Butt, it does explain the "Haiyaaaaaaaaaaaaa" thang. 8:08 mark............. fuiyoh!

Spoiler!

Who am I kidding? He makes some good points........... "It's flied lice, you plick." Lethal Weapon Uncle Benny reference, gulolol.
