Bunkers would be way more fun

6thGear. 12-01-2021 02:33 PM

It's Murica....could very well have bunkers in lieu of patios

westopher 12-01-2021 02:34 PM

I don’t know watching some fuck after 14 Budweiser’s downed while screaming at his TV for players kneeling during the national anthem taking a tumble out that door because he forgot he didn’t pay extra for the deck would be pretty lovely.

underscore 12-01-2021 03:28 PM

A deck that size costs $20k USD? What the fuck.

Hondaracer 12-01-2021 03:34 PM

Maybe they are charging 20k but a deck like that shouldn’t be more than 10-12, if that. Labour is dirt cheap in a lot of the states.

Guaranteed those places gonna turn into the ghetto real quick

6thGear. 12-01-2021 03:40 PM

Mexican labour

So for a refrence, for 150k or so I built a basement suite, renoed my main floor and kitchen, and paid someone 25k or so for my bathroom. Outside of the bathroom I did almost all the work alone and I rewired my entire house with a one man electrician/company

You watch those shows in California with those 2 clowns who got divorced they Reno ENTIRE homes for like 80-100k. All their labour are Mexicans lol Thay usually includes landscaping, either painting or residing the exterior, etc

You mean Tarek and Christina? LOL. Buying sight unseen then freaking out its an abandoned house with a leaky roof. LOL

Can't be any better than Love it or List it. "tear this wall down?? Gillian this is a load bearing wall??!!"

Hondaracer 12-01-2021 04:19 PM

Can’t fucking stand love it or list it or Gillian

“Hey..yea so like..the electrical panel is actually in a shower and we didn’t see this before so yea, you’re not getting a new kitchen OR bathroom, sorry”

6thGear. 12-01-2021 04:57 PM

I don't know how some participants can possibly be happy with their work. Newly reno'd kitchen rest of the house is still in shambles

Yeah, it's kind of dumb. Then you have the complete opposite, guys like Mike Holmes who are like, "yeah this is built to code and is standard building practices but I can do it better no cost is too large". Then he proceeds to rip out everything and redo it using the Ferrari of products in all aspects well low key shitting on whoever built the house the way it was designed and drawn up. At least he knows what he's doing but not everyone has a Caviar budget Mike, some of us are eating grilled cheese on the regular.

Like most thing in life, get what you pay for. ASA's or BBS/Volks??

I remember meeting and talking to the FairtradeWorks owner Jim Perkins years ago. He mentioned how the cost of land in Vancouver really makes most builders use the cheapest of materials/cheap labour just to get under budget (of course) but most importantly owners can't budget properly to make their reno's work. Now how good is FairTradeWorks? I'm not sure

"The homeowners say they found defects that could lead to mould, water damage, carbon dioxide leaks and higher risk of a fire."

This is the only alleged offence in that article..

I'm not an expert but I reno'd our home last year and we are not professionals... But, how does a reno lead to mould, water damage, and CO2 leaks???

Mould? The only thing that comes to mind is the type of caulking they used in the shower, maybe they didn't use the right caulking and the caulking is going black?

Water damage... So the plumber didn't fit the fittings properly? or is it that the faucet is leaking.

Without specifics, this reads as just a hit piece of click bait.

6thGear. 12-06-2021 12:16 PM

I'm not an expert either but I'd say poor workmanship (pinholes in the caulking) and quality of products chosen for the job (simple as putting up normal drywall in the shower instead of the waterproof one)
Possible they ended up deciding to sell their home and the buyer hired an Inspector and he/she found issues which led to the lawsuit?

Increases taxes by 6+% but won't put mandatory vaccines for vpd:rukidding: higher returns than inflation

Exactly why we need to vote out the current City Council -- not just Kennedy Stewart, but actually the majority of the current City Council as well.

If I can have things my way, I'd also fire the VPD Chief Adam Palmer.

Hondaracer 12-08-2021 11:50 AM

Not happy with the increase but I don’t really care about the VOd vaccination policy, it’s much like any other big corporation, you just never hear about the other ones.

Given the state of downtown etc. I think the last thing we need is to boot officers out of the force.

westopher 12-08-2021 12:22 PM

Cops better be wearing masks on duty then. Seems a bit unreasonable they are entering indoor spaces that the unvaccinated aren’t allowed to enter.

Hondaracer 12-08-2021 12:31 PM

Still have to take daily tests on their own time before duty etc.

6thGear. 12-08-2021 02:46 PM

I'm a bit surprised they aren't enforcing vaccination for VPD. My BIL who's CBSA said a few people got let go due to them refusing vaccine as is my MIL who's an RN said a few nurses got let go as well for refusing. Yet VPD is not mandatory? I guess like Hondaracer said booting out officers when they're that stretched thin, they can't be forcing cops to be vaccinated

JDMDreams 12-08-2021 04:11 PM

It's not like they solve crimes anyways, we just end up with burnt cars after shootings, all the hobos are still there, have you gone to China town lately? And the lovely weekly protests in Vancouver. :rukidding:

donk. 12-08-2021 04:25 PM

How dare you insult the VPD like that.
They are very hard at work protecting those jobless hippie larpers that protest on cambie/12th, pissing off thousands of drivers stuck in traffic that all want to run them over

On a side note, can confirm with hondaracer, i have one friend as a firefighter, one as AEHS, both unvaccinated, both get tested instead of the vaccine

unit 12-09-2021 07:30 AM

they cited staffing shortages as the reason for not enforcing the vax policy. how many of these guys would willingly leave their 100k jobs to go somewhere else if the policy came in place? i'm sure many would fall in line.

Hondaracer 12-09-2021 08:15 AM

VSB isn’t enforcing vaccines, many of the telcos are not either. They all have the same policy, daily testing on your own time.

People get their panties in a bunch because the news runs these stories but technicians etc. coming into your home (albeit wearing a mask) can operate under the same policy and you have no power to demand proof of vaccine etc so not sure why it’s so upsetting that VPD are any different, people who 99% of the population never interact with.
