Once thought my UberEats driver was coming in a G63 but it was just a GLB instead.

i'd go spend the 125.00 at my butcher and my green grocer. both on my block. I'd get more quality for the money, and I'd waste less of the product. those salad boxes never make it. I'd also have 90% less packaging to deal with.

fuck box stores. support local.

Nowhere beats Costco price for protein. Frankly the quality is usually much better than even these butchers that claim to be “specialty” ie. Windsor etc.

I’m not buying the organic versions anymore but their organic thighs and ground beef, you won’t find better for the price imo

how much $$ were the thighs at costco?

costco is not the cheapest for meat, sure is convenient though

what I usually do is find thighs on sale, 88 / buy-low / t&t, I debone them myself and also make chicken broth

Totally agree, I buy all my meat at Costco for the price and quality you can't beat it. Combine that with one of those zip sealing machines it works really well, ground beef, steak, pork, chicken whatever.

i buy a half side of beef every year from a ranch. nobody is beating that for price or quality. all grocery store ground beef stinks

grocery store chicken - I've bought those thighs before, opened the pack and had it smell so bad it's inedible. not schleping over town to costco to return it. my local meridian farm market does us right on chicken and pork.

unless you eat salad 3 times a day - you're not going to make it through that romaine and spinach before it starts to turn. I can buy it every other day on my way home and it's always fresh.

my point was - if you you're going to spend the big money anyways, the benefits of spending it in your neighbourhood are high. it feels good.

RE thread content. glad we locked in last year w an early renewal (spring 2021). buckle up for the ride.

EDIT: my comments are based on shopping and feeding x2 people. Family of 6? ya, I get it. You need to find the savings and bulk where you can

Nothing better for cost savings over buying whole animals or primal cuts. A huge part of the price increase is the processing labour. No one wants to replace all the people that died at the processing plants during covid. Those places were always the cheapest shit meat though, the good stuff has increased in price much less than the bad shit and comparatively is easier to justify than prior.

More power to ya Producer. I’ve been a hunter pretty much my whole life and while I immensely enjoy the sport whenever I shoot somthing it’s bordering on a feeling of dread in that now I have to gut it and cut it up etc. not because I find it gross or anything just because I find it to be a massive chore which I very much dislike lol

The way prices are going though might have to go that route pretty quickly

I hate how many of the processed steaks at costco are mechanically tenderized

Agreed, I really don't understand why they do this, without even offering a non-tenderized option.

I'm sorry, but I don't need my beef needled. I have working teeth.

farm to (almost) table. we're still out there doing it. my wife's family still raises about 80 head a year. it's a ton of work.

Untitled by GhstRidr, on Flickr

from a real estate perspective - man, you have to love doing this stuff. The family owned rangeland and hayfields would be worth a heck of a lot more than they'll ever make raising cattle.

We had a family farm too that stopped farming (about 20-30 cattle) before I was even born... we had talked about trying to start something back up again but none of us were up to it, let alone moving out there... so sold it instead.

Even just trying to clean it up for sale was a gargantuan amount of work let alone trying to run a place like that every day.

Instead of onlyfans I’ll do some online RS butchery and meal costing lessons if you guys want. I’m in desperate need of some new PS4s and that Michelin price increase is wack.

I've finally got a Costco card a month ago and bought my first pack of Kirkland chicken wings. Shit went bad 3 days before BB date. With the way my household is going the past few months, we've thrown away more spoiled groceries than I like and I my pet peeve is food wastage, so we've also started buying what will last us 3-4 days. Everything stays fresh and food wastage has gone down drastically

I used to have milk and stuff go bad earlier than best before date, until I realized I kept perishables in the door of the fridge or close to the door. Now that I've move milk and stuff further back in the fridge and adjusted the temperature, no more issues with shit going bad. I also keep opening the door shorter lengths and not fully open. Works for me. Hot days don't help............

I shop a lot at Costco now since I live just down the street but it does mean I throw out a lot more food as I just can't get through all of it before it goes bad. It still ends up costing me less than going to Save-On or Safeway though so while I don't like throwing away food I do like saving money.

The best thing I have bought though is a vacuum sealer - my freezer is full of meal sized packs of meat. I eat healthier now as I just need some roast or grilled veg to go with the meat and I'm set for dinner versus my old diet that was heavy on carbs.

My kid goes through a 4L jug in 3-4 days and he's the only one that drinks milk. 1L of Half/half lasts us the same time. It's really the meat and veggies that just sit there that spoils thrown out plus it's an apartment sized small fridge, so front or back, there's not much temperature drop.

My freezer is so damn small, I've fit maximum 1 weeks worth of frozen meat. Costco seems, well at least for my household at this moment, is only good for diapers, TP, paper towels, snack sized snacks and that's it.
