Doable. | Were talking 50k gross income? How long to save the 15k? What happens when an unexpected bill comes up? I hope that job they have is in Abby too. I guess you can always work harder when things get rough.

or $3,600 a month net.
Save $1,000 per month = 15months to save up $15k.
If your were dual income, even better.
To be fair, he also said you would have to make some massive sacrifices for 5-10 years.

Two scenarios
Live in a 1500$/basement suite and don't save
Live in a shared room, in a house, pay 600$ a month for your rent, and in 2 years you would have 20k for a 5% down payment Quote:

Can save up quite a bit in those scenario.

A lot of Kids nowadays don’t have the appetite for hard work or sacrifices. I see it all the time. These 20 year old longshore kids just do 1-2 jobs a week (enough to pay for a night or two out on the town) then go back to living with mom and dad.
If their parents don’t leave them their house / savings I think these fuckers would just starve.
Had one of these dudes ask for a raise / promotion after only working there for 1 year and he got shat on by his own union rep. The sense of entitlement is strong nowadays.

When I first met him, he was making 45k gross a year, and lived in a house with 7 other dudes. His rent was 450$/month.
Lived in east van, worked in downtown, 30 min drive
3 years in, he managed to save around 45k, bought a condo in Langley, an old dump, 600sqft, he continued to work in downtown, his drive was 2hrs minimum round trip.
Today, he owns a 25 year old condo in Burnaby, worth two times what he paid for the dump in langley.
Furthermore, his net worth, is probably double the sum, of what a renter in his scenario would have paid for 8 years in rent

$50K takes home - $3,331/month after taxes Expenses
Rent - $1,000 solo in a basement/shared 2BR, $500 if living with a partner )
Insurance - $150 - Shitbox that doesn't need collision/comprehensive
Maintenance - $30
Gas - $150 - Vancouver commute is always < 20km roundtrip
Groceries - $300
Entertainment and eating out - $600
Misc household + Gym + Haircut + Phone - $140
$2,365 spent
Shop on sale, cheapest plans for phone, internet, haircut, gym, household products, skincare, clothes, keep everything super low. $600 is enough to hang out $150/week for events + eating out with friends, drinking. Honestly you could get by with less if you spend your weekends working or hustling lol. Savings
$966 Saved per month + $552/month after raise to $60K for a total of $12,000 to $18,576 saved per year.
Over 5 years = $60,000 to $92,880 = Which should be enough to down payment a shitty 1BR that's 15 - 20 years old.
Anything else you make from side hustles, OT, 2nd jobs + raises are also 100% saved.
Man, if you can live that cheap and your income doubles or triples, you can start saving close to $4k - 6k/month and your investment income over time will start generating $300 - 1,000/month. But once you taste the nicer things it's hard to go back .

They have a decent car, nice home in city centre, no expenses and a disposable income of $2-4k/month.
Recently my gf was telling me how her friend was ranting about why so many people in Vancouver have a dream to buy a house and how it was so boring and uninspiring. She has a 3 BR new condo in Brentwood that was gifted but also make really good income. So she's in a stage in her life where everything buyable is already obtained, so what's the point of working more? Their desire it to work less but enough not to be considered a deadbeat by society.

Did Mr Happy Silp open new accounts?
Just work more hours. Just get another job. Just sleep less.
If everyone just lived in tents and ate at the soup kitchen, they'd be home owners in no time.

Live with 7 other people for 3 years and you too can own a one bedroom shithole with the possibility of upgrading to another one bedroom fixer upper in a nicer city years down the road. Hope you don't want kids. Man I can't believe people aren't lining up to live that life. Quote:

Everyone wants the reward, without putting in the work, or time spent in traffic, to get ahead in life | I'm sorry but that's fucking insane and completely unrealistic, you're professing an idea you wouldn't or haven't done yourself. Such a life would not be one for a large majority of Canadians born here.

That’s like some 3rd world refugee type shit lol..
A few years ago at work I had to go work in a basement suite behind Metrotown. The landlord knocked then opened the door, there’s a small “living room” with 2 queen sized beds in it, the room is dark. Buddy turns on the light and there’s 5 Indian guys sleeping on the 2 mattress in like a 500 sq ft basement suite
Seemed like a pretty killer life

For the record, Mr. HappySlip hasn't logged in for quite some time. One can't help but wonder if he's got multiple accounts.

I doubt it. It’s pretty hard to scratch out a living in Vancouver so you can buy 700k+ apartments. No matter how you scrimp and save.

It's not uncommon for a couple of family members to buy a house together. They buy a house with one or two rental suites. Live in the rental suite and rent the rest of the house out.
