While it isn't my home, I spend 20-25 days out of each month in a camp room that is 8' by 10'. Has a tiny twin size bed in it, a small desk and a stand up dresser. No TV, no fuck all. I walk down the hall 60' to share 6 bathrooms with the other 50 people that live in this wing of our camp.

I've stayed in exploration camps, where 4 guys share one 12'x12' tent with 2 bunks in it, for 45+ days at a time.

You're usually well compensated for it, but its a trade off. The exact same tradeoff that someone in town could make in order to save a few bucks on accommodation cost.

As for this brilliant gem. Nice try bud, the last 2 generations have been selling this generation down a fucking river with their policies and spending, and environmental neglect. Humans are selfish creatures, they care nothing of others, and will do anything to further their own cause above other humans or creatures.

Those camps are glorious. It was a good day when I got fed from an exploration camp. Sometimes they even gave me a brown paper bag lunch to go. Lol.

Success is a subjective and organic measurement that can change at will. Is the pinnacle of one's success to be rich? Well, what is rich? If you're worth $5 million but are in a room of people with net worths of $10million+, are you still rich?

Is SFH ownership the pinnacle of success? Okay, so you bought a 4 bed, 3 bath, split level house. Okay, is that enough or will you need something bigger in the future?

It's all perception worthy of psychological lectures in itself. There's hardly a uniform metric for something as personal as success but who cares? Anecdotes are what inspire the current and next generation to harness their emotions and find something to believe in and make something of themselves.

What I find annoying are people who reap the absolute benefits this country has to offer from their positions of astounding privilege while simultaneously calling every institution in said country as racist, sexist, insert-2022-buzzword to align with themselves somehow being oppressed and marginalized. Oh the irony. I guess everyone wants to be Al Sharpton.

Fuck outta here. Let the actual marginalized people speak. Save your platforming for your 6 follower Twitter page. It's a good thing the immigrants know what's bullshit. They just want to work and live here because North America (whichever country you choose) is a centerpiece of the world, like it or not.

I looked into this, and while on the surface it may look like a good deal, it's quite risky.
Too many variables, where the last owner can "re buy" their house, add in court dates, etc, your money is locked away for several months or possibly years.

Just invest in something that is ready to be yours.

Don't worry, the government will fuck it all up and not have any staff in place at Immigration Canada to process all the applications and do interviews... just a headline, in reality they'll trickle in slowly like they always do lol

My question on this one is, is this a Trudeau thing, or would the Conservatives follow the same immigration policy if elected?

I'm truly curious if the Cons would elicit any actual policy change on this one (as many seem to think they would).

I don't think there's really that a big a difference in real numbers between the two parties (https://www.statista.com/statistics/...nts-in-canada/), it's just that one party talks it up a lot more.

In any case, immigration is a bit of necessity for Canada. Our birth rate is too low, we're going to be hit with masses of boomers retiring who need social services, and we have a deep lack of skilled workers (and we're not a very productive country). We have to bring people in if we want to sustain our quality of life.

The housing side of it is a related but separate problem though and immigration does make that worse.

supafamous 11-02-2022 01:26 PM

I've been mostly a skeptic of non-market housing as I've mostly thought that the problem is that zoning is the biggest problem and that if we zone correctly (much denser) then the market would build the housing we need but this video does a great job explaining how non-market housing can be part of the solution and it doesn't really require anyone to "lose" money on it which was my impression of this type of housing.

Non-market can be done without subsidies but they do need a bit of help to get off the ground and when they do get done they end up as equally good but cheaper housing.

Feds just raised rates .75

I think BoC has to come in at .50 next month.

The hypocrisy is strong with some of the Canadian born generations/posters (dare I say majority are white? lmao) in this thread who get a lot of likes on their comments over the last few pages. It's hilarious.

When someone says/proves it's possible to own a home in Abby by making a lot of sacrifices within a 10 year span during your prime years, you entitled/overprivileged motherfuckers complain that's not a lifestyle to look forward to and you'd rather die than do that, you are also the same motherfuckers who complain you can't afford to buy a property here in the 1st place, complain you don't get inheritance from your parents. Maybe it's because of the same mindset that your parents and you share that never give you a chance to get any inheritance. Let me remind you that you are also the same motherfuckers who buy expensive grocery from your local organic stores; eat out regularly; drive expensive, vintage or new car; and take multiple vacations a year. In other words, you are not living frugally by any means, not making any sacrifices with your lifestyle, then you have the audacity to complain you can't afford to buy here, and place the blame on those who's ahead of you because they got an inheritance from their parents.

You want all the cakes, don't want to make any sacrifices, complain you can't buy a home here. Then when someone offers a clear, proven solution that can help you get into the market, you complain that's not a lifestyle to look forward to. Why don't you just slap yourself then.

It is totally fine if you don't want to live that ghetto lifestyle, you can drive your nice ass vintage or new car, eat your organic shit, eat out at your fancy restaurants regularly, take your multiple vacations a year, just don't complain at the same time that you can't buy a home here because you clearly can as someone has already shown, but it requires a ton of sacrifices in your lifestyle over a long term, which a lot of you whiners won't do.

westopher 11-02-2022 07:33 PM

So if you want the middle ground, where people that work hard for what they get are rewarded appropriately you’re a whiner.
Fucking genius.
Don’t ever want anything to be better, don’t ever expect improvement. Just shut the fuck up, and put your head down, right? It’s a good thing people don’t have that mindset cause I’m not sure how long you’d last as a caveman.
