When you’ve got that mountain view I’m sure flat top is so enticing if you can create an outdoor space on them
But yea I wouldn’t trust any company to get it right
Had a thought today walking around, the prevalence of new, massive, self-storage facilities all across the lower mainland are a sign of underreported downsizing/co-inhabiting of rentals?

I have an uncle who's been in the ministorage business for a few decades. Big increase in demand in dense/urban areas, because yeah, if you live in a 500 sq. ft. 1 BR you need a place to put your seasonal gear, old stuff you don't want to throw out, stuff you can't fit in your new place because it's smaller than your old place, etc.
Additionally it seems like housing is less stable for renters and people are moving more frequently (1-2 years) so the storage unit helps to not need to move all your shit each time.
His company used to look for industrial park locations in the 90's whereas now they look where density is being built and large new residential developments are being built. That Maple Leaf Self Storage on 1st near Hwy 1? Basically built for all those Brentwood residents.
Happening in other cities with competitive rental markets too, e.g. Kelowna.
Also not infrequently finding people trying to live in their storage unit.
All that along with the increase in property values means he's done quite well.

Totally with the flat top balcony, we really liked a house on top of Capitol Hill, where the roof top balcony had an amazing view into downtown. Couldn't make the money work. Leaks be damned lol.
In regards to storage, with the move towards a more urban style (I would say more European/Asian living style) and the unwillingness to give up the North American hoarding, buy big tendencies, the storage units are going to be important.
There's also lots of ppl like my dad who can't give up their crap (again hoarding) despite downsizing from a house -> condo.
Honestly if you have a storage unit, I don’t want to say you’re probably just a loser but ehhhhhhhhg… lol
That’s a dangerous spiral of the habits of unsuccessful people lol. I couldn’t believe how much some of these storage units are. My sister in law had like a 6x8 unit and it was $250 or $350 a month. How much of that shit in there is worth keeping?
Paying monthly to store your garbage on top of riding the struggle bus with your rent, utilities etc. not a recipe for success.
We’ve got a house with plenty of storage, a sizeable shed, etc. my parents also have a big house with a crawl space etc. I could store as much as I want at. However if I had to I could EASILLY pair down to like 4 totes or a car load of stuff. And I’ve got some nice shit! Lol

What are you stupid. We all know why you rent a storage locker:
Useful short term like say you're selling youe house and want to declutter for showings but I'd agree long term just get rid of some stuff.

A fire investigator who testified before the court says the fire started when a lamp in Chou’s apartment made contact with household items that then spread rapidly due to the large amount of possessions packed densely throughout the unit.
Working as a technician I guarantee you almost every high rise in the Burnaby/Vancouver area has a handful of people like this in each building. 95% of the time they are middle aged or older single Asian people lol.. white people and Indian people in my experience can be full on filthy fucking dirt balls whos homes have never seen a vaccum and garbage overflowing trash cans. But I’ve never seen a white/Indian/black person with stacks of soup containers, news papers, etc. honestly if you live in a building I’d keep an eye out for these people because their units are just breeding grounds for all sorts of shit
Great to see someone held accountable. If you’ve got so much shit in your unit that if a tiny fire can turn your whole unit ablaze, you 100000% should be held liable for the resulting damage.

Whats with you Guangdong people and your hoarding. I don't know any Beijing or Shanghai fucks who hoard. its all from your province !!!!
Lol I find there's a correlation of the number of potted dying plants in the front yard outside and the likelihood of a hoarding situation inside. Not sure it's just me that's noticed this.

I was reading same article from a different source and indicates the person did not have tenant insurance

It's also almost always a Vancouver special as well
What's the proper procedure on raising the tenant's rent?
3 months notice in advanced in writing?
Is there some form that's online that they need to sign?
