One of the main reasons I want out of this area of the tri-cities | That road needs to be double the width, if not triple to account for future development. Good thing they are building mid-rises everywhere instead

Hows your trip to Drumheller, Banff, Revelstoke, Fernie, The Shuswap? The highways to the lower mainland can have problems but I'll take them over the ferry any day. There's several to choose from, I don't have to make reservations to use them, there's no schedule I have to follow, and I don't have to spend an hour and a half listening to some jerks car alarm go off. The most I've spent stopped on the Connector is about half an hour, compared to the hours I've spent waiting for ferries.
Again pros and cons to everything/everywhere, but to me the ferries are worse by a long shot. Every time I have to go visit my family out on the Gulf Islands the ferry is by far the worst part of the trip. Granted you have to take 2 ferries for that which is a lot worse than 1 because whoever runs the schedule at BC Ferries is a colossal idiot.

So what you're saying is that you've adapted your life to living in your region.
"How's your trip to Drumheller, Banff, Revelstoke, Fernie, The Shuswap?"
This means nothing to me, I don't care for trips to these places.
I'd be like me saying "How's your trip to Tofino, Bamfield, Broken Islands, Carmanah Walbran, Strathcona Park, Cape Scott, Lake Cowichan"?

| that's not what I'm saying but sure yeah, the island is the best place to live for absolutely everyone, regardless of what they actually like. my mistake.
My trip around the island was pretty nice though. We went, saw the few interesting things, and left.

I don't even think you know what you're even arguing anymore.
Your original comment was "the island seems neat until you get fucked by the ferries".
And I'm saying "that's not an issue to most people here because we simply don't use them as much as you think we do"
I don't think I ever said "The island is the best place to live for everyone", you're just pulling that one out of your ass.
A bunch of years ago (when I first got my Speed 3) I took a trip around the the okanagan was kind of nice though, saw a few interesting things, and left.

I'm not really arguing anything, I'm just saying living there wouldn't work for me and some people seem to be taking offense to that. Really they should be supporting that line of thinking since I'm guessing people moving in screws you guys just as much as it's been screwing us lol. If it doesn't then you've been fortunate.

Location-wise, I think this particular place is actually decent because despite the mad traffic that you get on St. Johns / Barnet, you can probably dodge a lot of the heaviest traffic if you head off south on the small streets (Clearview Dr, then maybe up Thermal Drive or something), or escape east on Dewdney Trunk Road.
As rb was saying though -- you don't want to get stuck on St. Johns at all, nor do you want to get stuck on Barnet. Also, this unit faces north, so you'll be looking / hearing the traffic on St. Johns / Barnet. Quote:

We like our house, like our neighborhood between Suterbrook and Coquitlam Center but the traffic / commute is becoming absolutely insane. We are prioritizing our move up to Burnaby for this reason.

Traffic in Port Moody is crazy and it’s going to get worse. I’ve tried every way around it. Doesn’t decrease the time and only adds to the stress and maybe having an accident so I just ride it out

Always thought that Tsawwassen or Ladner might be the best place to look for a place, in a few years time, the new Massey bridge will be built and it will be smooth sailing ... oh wait, they gonna replace a 4 lane tunnel with a 4 lane tunnel + 1 lane for pedestrian/bikes. |

I'm thinking of what the most optimal places to live are with WFH in mind or at least 2 days in office. Drove home from Pomo to Mount Pleasant area in < 25 min at night time and that was shocking. Didn't realize it was that close.

So we're going from 2+2 (3+1 during counterflow) to 4+4 (1 of which is going to be Bus/HOV)

i see way less value going to vimc and i prefer even the hassle of an international crossing and seattle jam for ridge than to subject to peak season ferries
previous page going on vacations from yyj: unless it's changed they don't fly anywhere outside the continent. But it is definitely interesting to hear from a pilot's take https://www.victoriaairport.com/non-stop-destinations
can you guys feasibly still access cheaper US parcels? not that it can somehow justify the insane ridiculous housing and some annoying traffic in the LML haha

If you're talking specifically about going to the track it's like 4hrs for you guys to get to The Ridge. It's 1.5hrs for me to get to Area 27 but it's only like 1hr to VIMC from Victoria or 45mins from Naniamo. I'm also guessing they aren't pretty much guaranteed heatstroke like I am if I go to The Ridge. I'm just guessing though and I've got like a room temperature IQ so, y'know. lol.

Same here! my commute from east van to work (door to desk) takes about 45 minutes in traffic, but I get coworkers saying their commute to the office from Surrey takes about the same time. Something doesn't seem right

^ perhaps it depends on when you leave home. Sometimes leaving 1/2 hr earlier can shave 15 mins. And then you get to leave a tad earlier too ... presumably.

When I was in South Van commuting to BCIT, it'd take almost 20 - 35 minutes until I figured out there were some smaller streets I could cut to avoid Boundary / Kingsway / Willingdon.
Leaving the condo to the parkade on some days take 3 - 6 minutes vs walking outside to street / garage

About 40 mins door to door from Coq Center to DT on WestCoast Express. Pretty much similar when I was in Richmond taking Canada Line with Park & Ride at River Rock.

Connections are generally a must. Was actually surprised to see that link, looks like West Jet has cut back a fair amount from what they use to do.
Parcels? Not that I’m aware of. Heck they can’t even get IKEA. Lol.

With the $600 million expansion they just announced for yyj, non stop intercontinental flights are a future probability: https://victoria.citified.ca/news/60...g-investments/
Not that it really matters to me much, I don't see myself travelling off continent anytime soon

As someone who have spent a good chunk of my adult life doing undergrad in Victoria, I honestly don't mind the ferry.
But I totally get why some people hate the ferry trip to death. My wife is one of those. We have talked multiple times about our retirement place and I brought up Victoria several times, and the answer is always a hard no or "not unless they build a bridge".
It's just not very pleasant experience. I remember doing same-day trip with first ferry out and last ferry back and I was always exhausted even though I was pretty much at my physical prime. It's not about the time on ship, but rather the wait at terminal, delays, the constant traffic jam as you are off with hundreds of cars heading toward the same direction at the same time.
The way I find living on the island is that you stick with it. You don't ever come to the mainland unless absolutely necessary. If you actually like the whole appeal of lower mainland and would like to visit say even once a month or something like that... I agree, I'd rather live in Okanagan, drive the HWY1/3/5 than taking the ferry.

Yah, I go to the island maybe once or twice a year, usually in nice weather season, so I enjoy the relaxing ferry ride through the strait of Georgia, especially when it goes through narrow channels and you're so close to the island. I call it a poor man cruise .
But there were moments in high season with all those cancellations, short-staffed that I wouldn't dare to try the ferries.
