Tried dipping some stripes on my fender,
Let the dip dry with the masking tape still on there and it came out horribly as the tape ripped up some of the dip

Peeled reasonably easily though. No harm, no foul

I didn't like the width of my first attempt either so I tried masking some wider ones on,
This time I peeled the masking tape within a minute of applying the dip. Clean tear and fingers crossed that it won't run

After 20 mins of drying

Good idea with the stripes. I'm going to try this on my A pillars to get rid of some rock chips after I fill them in!

Won't look too ricey since I have a black car.

Picked up a can of matte black for the grille of my FX35.

Want to make sure I like it before having a body shop spray it.

Yea any striping or clean lines over any surface where you don't have a natural break you must remove the tape when the dip is wet. if you mess up just lay the tape back down spray another layer and peel away.

Bike paint is really simmilar to the way cars are painted.

There should be no problem plastidiping a bike. Although Im pretty sure in about two rides with rocks and shit it will look like crap. But hey thats your choice.

Dipped my first set of wheels today. Buds 5 spoke wheels on his Altima, matte black. Turned out really well. Took nearly 4 hours though..

Yeah, it went like this:

-washed the wheels
-only had 2 jackstands, so I could only do 2 wheels at a time
-had to find wood blocks to increase the jack height
-dried the wheels
-put painters tape around the edge of the wheels and tires
-laid down 5 coats with about 10 minutes in between each coat
-took a half hour for dinner
-repeated for the other 2 wheels

If i didnt take a break and had jack stands to get all 4 wheels off (or painted the wheels while still on the car) the total time wouldve been cut down by an hour or two. But the wheels turned out really nice, so Im happy either way.

The photo is pretty awful since it was dark by the time we finished. But I think the wheels make the car look more sporty and modern.

Yeah I actually did that with the first 2 but i didnt get enough thickness on them and it was a pain to peel it off so we just spent a few mins taping up the next 2

I'm confused, if you don't want the color anymore. It can be peeled off?

Yup. My truck had 4 spoke rims - which you don't see often, but they didn't look all that great silver. Plus they were quite scratched from being off-road, so out came the dip and they look perfect on the black truck now.

Do you take the wheels off to dip them?

What about the barrels?

It's even worse when you take the wheels off and dip gets into the bolt holes - when you put the tapered end of the lugs back on it completely tears off all the surrounding dip from the hole AND THEN tears off the entire face. That happened with my Anthracite Grey dipped wheels when I tried to test fit them so I tore off all the dip afterwards

Some of the overspray from dipping the faces does hit the inner barrels

Is that gold metallizer with a black base?

If so me and kunoman1 were debating whether to do this color on his wheels as well!
^If your customer like bright gold, just spray white dip as the base coat. If he prefers dark gold, you can use gunmetal or black dip for the base coat. It will look quite unique.
