i'm itching...BUT its still less than 7 degrees in the mornings and i'm gonna hang on till end of Feb. According to weather network, there are 'flurries' within the next 2 weeks but we all know how accurate they are.

I do enjoy winter, but I have been driving in snow for 15 years without snow tires. I grew up in whistler/squamish, and we used to get real winters.

Whistler/Squamish doesn't get real winters...

Are you retarded or just trolling?

Mud tires are generally pretty good in snow, the same big thick grooves that help in mud help drag you along in the snow. So it is pretty obvious that you are not going to have many problems. However hit a patch of ice (no pun intended) and you are going to go sliding like a hockey puck.

The problem I have with all your posts is that most people are not running mud tires, nor are they even remotely used to running in the snow, then they read your borderline idiotic comments and believe it is okay for them to continue cheaping out and driving on A/S tires.

Experience does not fully substitute having the correct equipment. You would think someone in trades would know this...

Do what you want, nobody cares...

And for the record unless you only drive in Vancouver then anyone who put on winter tires still got good use out of them. My FX was in PG for over 3 weeks this winter, it was in williams lake for another 2 weeks, I drove the S2S 12 times, I drove the Coq another 4 times. So I got plenty of worthy winter driving on my tires...

If you're telling me you went into a snow covered parking lot and tried to lose control and you couldn't, you're full of shit. Take any vehicle on the planet, any set of tires on the planet, if you try to you can lose control in the snow.

Arguing that A/S tire use is adequate in the winter if you're "careful" is as idiotic as arguing that low tread-tire use in warm weather is all right if you're "careful".

How you clowns miss the point that snow is not a prerequisite for winter tires is more confusing to me than how anyone can eat eggplant.

I think the current laws requiring winter tires/chains on certain highways are not enough. If ignorant drivers can be ticketed for using low-tread tires, the same should be done for not using winter tires.

Haha, Iceman. Your funny. If you've ever driven on snow tires you know they are superior in cold weather. Despite the lack of snow. 15 years in Squamish, i'm sure you have driven on them… So really you are just trying to create a little controversy, and be a big tough guy on some mudders.

I bought my first set of snowies in The Pas Manitoba (Yeah, thats a real winter). The car, RWD with LSD was useless on a flat icy surface. I couldn't even move from a stand still at temps below -20 - -45 with the all seasons. (Not even kidding). I continued to use them in Thompson MB, Ottawa, then in Toronto and now back in Vancouver. When this set wears out, i'll buy another. Why? They provide awesome traction in the snow when we get it (The car is a bloody tank now), and it saves my expensive summer tires for when they are actually useful.

Your in a 4x4, and acting like a lot of rednecks thinking it'll go through anything. Oh and BTW, my 325i on studs was a hell of a lot better in the snow then my YJ on snow rated A/T's.

Do we have to have them in Vancouver? no, but it certainly doesn't mean you shouldn't have them. Any half competent driver can manage a life in Vancouver in all season's, but if you plan on having your vehicle for any extended period of time, why be a cheap ass? Get two sets and perform well in every season.

Iceman's snow tires comments are like when people get in an elevator and make a smartass comment like "haha they can't fit 20 people in here" looking at the maximum load sticker. Never stupid to go above requirements.

For anyone who knocks winter tires in Vancouver I invite them over to Kingsway and Boundary and watch a gong show of cars trying to make it up a tiny hill.

I guess we would have to wait until the city receives freezing temperatures and snow begins to accumulate at that intersection to witness this gong show you speak of.

Because for the last few weeks it seems any vehicle has been able to navigate that hill with any grade of tire. Meanwhile, it technically is winter season in Vancouver.

I'll pass, but seriously man... Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize snow=very little traction
very little traction=ability to lose control...
