If this is true i guess it's time to get the snowies mounted.

c3m 11-09-2012 10:47 AM

temperature been around 2 at night..

think it's time to put them on?

Spectre_Cdn 11-09-2012 11:10 AM

Reluctantly, I'm putting mine on this weekend. The cities are starting to salt the roads too, so I'll let my steelies take the beating :heckno:

EvoFire 11-09-2012 12:04 PM

I put my winters on, my summers weren't going to cut it for when I work at 6am

snails 11-09-2012 12:08 PM

KO7 11-09-2012 02:49 PM

Got my Altimax Artics from Tirerack, but gonna wait til next weekend to have them mounted. Looks like it's going to be 7 or 8 degrees this week still.

Graeme S 11-09-2012 06:34 PM

IIRC it's not just the effectiveness at 7 degrees, it's the effects on the rubber compounds when they drop below a certain temperature. There's a bunch of tire shops advertising that they store tires "in a temperature controlled environment" for just such a reason.

Either way, I'm glad I've got mine on so when that first day of dusting comes and everyone panics, I'll be able to drive by pointing and laughing.

I just installed my winters last week. The Going down from 18x10.5 to 18x8.5. :okay:

dn53 11-10-2012 05:59 PM

Got some michelin x ice with the groove on the sidewall in it from being driven flat, but no dusting/shredding on the inside. notice this a lot with Michelin tires though. you guys think its safe to go? debating whether i should go for it this season

Very unlikely. Depending on your truck, you may be able to get steelies for about a hundred bucks at a wrecker, but then tires will probably be about $150/corner, plus installation, fees, taxes, and the like. it's not likely you'll do anything less than a thousand dollars unless you order online and pick up down south.

Even then you'll get hit with taxes and duties.

hi-revs 11-11-2012 12:36 AM

put them on this morning!
Glad i did since its so freaking cold tonight

HondaGuy 11-11-2012 12:37 AM

Got through Hwy 97c today with my Nokian all-seasons. Probably wasn't the best plan, but... meh :lol Pretty sure I was the lowest car on the road in the Interior.

Greenstoner 11-11-2012 03:41 AM

Acura604 11-12-2012 02:26 PM

Got mine on...love that I drop to 8L/100km from 9....lol (17" vs 18")

Here's some great idiotic advice from news1130

Do you need winter tires as soon as the temperatures drop? - News1130

EvoFire 11-12-2012 06:39 PM

Well he is saying all-seasons, which most of us don't have.

I've made it reasonably ok with all seasons. Its not ideal but its totally doable.

LuHua 11-12-2012 07:00 PM

Don't know what he's on, our family X-Trail is passable through the winter with all-seasons but no friggin way I'm trying it with the Civics again. The Corolla I had sliding down the hill uncontrollably in front of me last year was proof enough that winter tires do make a hell of a difference.

Well...maybe he'd be right if you avoided every day with sub-zero conditions, snow, slush, or ice.

jlenko 11-12-2012 07:09 PM

Winterized both cars today... winter tires on the SUV, better-treaded ones on the daily driver.

Also topped up fluids, blah blah blah..
