Had my snow tires put on Saturday, even though they were sitting at home for a month. Looks like I put em on just in time.

StylinRed 12-18-2012 09:19 AM

keep saying im not going to put it off any further but i still haven't gotten em on lol

Kaolinite 12-18-2012 02:13 PM

finally put my snow tires on today after going sideways down 20th street to the Queensborough Bridge at 720AM. my fault for still having summer tires on tho haha

Graeme S 12-18-2012 02:36 PM

Just a reminder to anyone who thinks that they don't need to switch from summers and just need to drive safely: If you get in an accident because you were out of control or couldn't break properly and you have summer-only tires? ICBC won't cover you. Your vehicle was not properly equipped for conditions and you're SOL.

And the poor bastard who wasn't cheap and bought snow tires will be pissed.

Exactly, that happened to someone before. ICBC deny to pay for the coverage.

finally got my snow tires on....:D i couldn't find 5 of my lug nuts, looked everywhere and decided to go to Lordco to pick some up, they didn't have any and they cost $18 each -_- went to t&t and they didn't either -_-
went home and decided to check my spare compartment and sure enough the lugs were in there! Lordco was closed by then though so I couldn't cancel my order in (they were bringing some in from their other store)

Also it looks like one of my snow tires might have a hole, it was completely flat when i got it on -_-
while the rest still had around 20psi -_-

no i mean t&t :)

T & T AUTO PARTS LTD.- Home

they've been around since the 80s, 70s?

iirc correctly they used to have a lot more locations but places like Lordco out foxed em so they've only got 5 places now

Spectre_Cdn 12-18-2012 08:28 PM

Ahhh I see. That logo does looks familiar...

dinamix 01-31-2013 09:37 PM

It's getting warmer! Who wasted money on snow tires this year?lol

Graeme S 01-31-2013 09:38 PM

Money that gives my mom peace of mind and more safety is never a waste.

Also, I managed to out-brake an X5 with the winters on. ...So all I got for my money was rear ended :okay:

dared3vil0 01-31-2013 09:44 PM

Horribly regretting buying winters now... If anyone wants to trade a set of good near new all seasons for my winters... Lemme know. (215/45/17)

Fun fact: Here in Manitoba, it seems like only 30% of drivers or something like that switch from all seasons (yes, yes, not summers) to winters.

Does the ICBC regulations apply to all seasons also?

:QQ: Fucking -36 in this God-forsaken place today. I should just not click on these threads.

Graeme S 01-31-2013 10:54 PM

ICBC would say tires inappropriate to conditions. Generally, as long as it's not -15 or below (I think?) then you don't need winters.

Weren't you the one that made the thread about buying snow tires and testing them out in Cypress and got everyone in an uproar lol.

Just store them and get a set of summer wheels.

dinamix 01-31-2013 11:10 PM

Winters are too much of a hassle

Expensive
Mounting
Balancing
Storage
Short tread life
Mild winters
Roads are always plowed
Shitty handling in the rain
Less fuel efficient

Ive weighed out the pros and cons and itst not worth it in the lower mainland

This. I think even in provinces like Quebec, it's illegal if you get caught without winter tires when it's mandatory. And if you get into an accident? c'est tres mal et bon voyage to the slammer. :fuckthatshit:

I love seeing X5s with "all season tires" in the snow. :joy:

But for those 2 weeks, they might've saved you and your Civic from an accident!

fliptuner 02-01-2013 11:33 AM

 people that swap tires back and forth on the the same rims.

I'm keeping my snows on for at least another 2 weeks to a month. Then switching to spring/fall setup til June, then summer setup.

Even if all seasons are fine for our winter conditions (just regular commuting, within the city), I don't want to fuck up the finish on my good wheels, driving through gravel, salt and shit and I know I'm not going to wash my car much when the weather's shitty.

Just because it's "warm" right now doesn't mean it will stay warm until summer. Virtually every year we seem to follow a similar pattern: snows for a few days in December, warms up in January, then cools back down again in February.

Remember, snow tires aren't just for snow; they're designed to handle better on cold roads than your standard all-season or summer tires.

dlo 02-01-2013 08:06 PM

survived the winter without snow tires.. had a run in ONCE and i fucking learned my lesson, thankfully it was just me going downhill and locking and hitting the curb :lol, i learned my lesson and will be more prepared next year, must save $$$ to buy snow tires or not drive at all.
