Had my snow tires put on Saturday, even though they were sitting at home for a month. Looks like I put em on just in time.

Just a reminder to anyone who thinks that they don't need to switch from summers and just need to drive safely: If you get in an accident because you were out of control or couldn't break properly and you have summer-only tires? ICBC won't cover you. Your vehicle was not properly equipped for conditions and you're SOL.

Exactly, that happened to someone before. ICBC deny to pay for the coverage.

finally got my snow tires on.... i couldn't find 5 of my lug nuts, looked everywhere and decided to go to Lordco to pick some up, they didn't have any and they cost $18 each -_- went to t&t and they didn't either -_-
went home and decided to check my spare compartment and sure enough the lugs were in there! Lordco was closed by then though so I couldn't cancel my order in (they were bringing some in from their other store)

Also it looks like one of my snow tires might have a hole, it was completely flat when i got it on -_-
while the rest still had around 20psi -_-

Money that gives my mom peace of mind and more safety is never a waste.

Also, I managed to out-brake an X5 with the winters on. ...So all I got for my money was rear ended

Fun fact: Here in Manitoba, it seems like only 30% of drivers or something like that switch from all seasons (yes, yes, not summers) to winters.

Does the ICBC regulations apply to all seasons also?

ICBC would say tires inappropriate to conditions. Generally, as long as it's not -15 or below (I think?) then you don't need winters.

Weren't you the one that made the thread about buying snow tires and testing them out in Cypress and got everyone in an uproar lol.

Just store them and get a set of summer wheels.

Winters are too much of a hassle

Expensive
Mounting
Balancing
Storage
Short tread life
Mild winters
Roads are always plowed
Shitty handling in the rain
Less fuel efficient

Ive weighed out the pros and cons and itst not worth it in the lower mainland

This. I think even in provinces like Quebec, it's illegal if you get caught without winter tires when it's mandatory. And if you get into an accident? c'est tres mal et bon voyage to the slammer.

I love seeing X5s with "all season tires" in the snow.

people that swap tires back and forth on the the same rims.

I'm keeping my snows on for at least another 2 weeks to a month. Then switching to spring/fall setup til June, then summer setup.

Even if all seasons are fine for our winter conditions (just regular commuting, within the city), I don't want to fuck up the finish on my good wheels, driving through gravel, salt and shit and I know I'm not going to wash my car much when the weather's shitty.

Just because it's "warm" right now doesn't mean it will stay warm until summer. Virtually every year we seem to follow a similar pattern: snows for a few days in December, warms up in January, then cools back down again in February.

Remember, snow tires aren't just for snow; they're designed to handle better on cold roads than your standard all-season or summer tires.
