Sorry to hear.

This may sound stupid, but if insurance covers it.... Should get an estimated value on those discontinued models... Maybe insurance will cover some of the cost of the loss of them??

That's a great point - my parents settled with their insurance provider but honestly given how much damage their property sustained and how much work was in front of them it didn't seem at all appropriate to ask for some of that money. They offered some but they needed it far more than I did at the time so I didn't pursue. :)

Live and learn.

The only stupid thing is I swear by storing things in sealed plastic totes but for some reason my models were in cardboard boxes. Oh well. :)

thumper 12-25-2014 03:06 PM

any pics of the flood cars?

Sunfighter 12-25-2014 03:24 PM

I never actually saw them - the restoration company came and took everything and returned what could be salvaged - the ones that remain look like they are brand new from a store. It sucks about the cars but what is heartbreaking is that I lost all my academic research works, journals, all my published materials, etc. :( but again, my fault. :)

thumper 12-25-2014 03:32 PM

ah that is too bad... i had hopes they could be reused as parts or custom builds :(

TouringTeg 12-26-2014 09:00 AM

Sunfighter that is a real shame. Good luck to your folks with the repairs.

As promised here is my 1:18 UT 993 arena red turbo with my 1:1 993 arena red C4S. Bonus picture of the framed picture my wife had made for me for Xmas :)

I've always thought about vacuum sealing or even shrink wrapping the slightly important stuff in my parent's crawlspace! I've most of my old photos sitting in a firesafe...probably should back up my hard drive frequently and throw that in there as well.

my friend went in recently and said there are no sales on right now, I think i may go in tomorrow though and see he they have any new product, ill also ask to see what their plan is once they close. It's too bad, they're a one of a kind store

68style 12-26-2014 10:49 PM

What's the reason anyway? They just moving on to something else? I don't think they have any bills to pay really and they own the store/place above it outright from what I know...

Totally worth it - I swear by storing everything I own in sealed plastic totes ... but the stuff in my basement was in cardboard boxes... :(

building was sold. someone else posted the listing but they've since pulled it as the building is off the market now...

the future of the business was dependent on the outcome of the sale, but now it sounds like the new owners will not be supporting wilkinson's so i guess ted is finally going to call it quits :(

HotWheels made some in their big wheel Tunerz lineup 1:64 scale... And a 1:18 as well... They're pretty stickered up and ricer looking tho. Here's an example: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=400530801755

Never seen a 1:43 personally...

underscore 12-31-2014 09:44 PM

Forgive my ignorance but how does a die cast model get destroyed by water?

bomiheko 01-01-2015 02:07 PM

All you diecast gods and enthusiasts, what's a good quality model I can get for <$100. Need for late secret santa. haha

Yeah, it's for a collector, I know 1:18 probably over budget, or maybe 1:43?
