Part of it was more a "car culture" for sure, I mean, some of those car shows in the states get 1000's of cars, bringing 10's of 1000's of attendees plus countless more viewing public, making the event worthwhile in economic spin off for the city.

That means, if a city wants to be successful with it, you can't kick the people in the balls while asking them to come and spend money: "hey! welcome. First, we hate you, and would prefer your 1932 ford was a hybrid, or people powered. Use our tollbridges!"

I think we went 2 or 3 years, and it was an awesome show. They opened up a big park to the show, that was just packed with cars. They had the burnouts in the middle of town at night. I saw police, but they weren't in your face AT ALL. They never drove through the park, or walked through looking people down for being there. And I'll tell you a LOT of people were doing the courtesy of using those foam can covers, but it wasn't pepsi.

Of course, if someone were to set up a drag race event on the south fraser peri road(which would be AWESOME!) we'd have neighbors complain, the police would want to escort you to and from and the mayors? The mayors would shut it down because it glorifies and legitimizes street racing. Oh the horror. But if trucks go 130 all day and all night, well, that's building economic progress.

RS organized 1/8 mile drag races event at BBA and the use of Pitt Meadows driving center for autoX.

i know alot of people that regularly go to mission and surprisingly enough they seem to be the least likely to be driving like tools on the street cuz they just save it for the road course or friday street legals.

I think it's as affordable as it'll ever get, for prices to go down we need more people in the sport!

it's really not *that* bad for the road course (but it aint cheap either, with safety equipment being one of the biggest expenses, but lasts you 3-5 years+ so spread over that its not that much). Usually $185 entry fee for 45-60 minutes of total racing time. I rented an EF civic to get my novice license and that was quite affordable as well (compared to the pro rentals). It's one of the best cars to learn on, just the right amount of power and decent handling. Details and vids are @ 888 Motorsports

I drive super slow when leaving the track (feels even slower after a race), its almost an automatic thing. There are some idiots who don't shut it off after the day's over, at the driver training a few years back there was a story of a student that passed people on the highway from the track @ 130-150 kph on the shoulder. Luckily one of the guys they passed was an instructor and they promptly canceled his novice license.

autox at pitt meadows is so strict about noise right now, it is just stupid. I remember for a few events we were made to stop drivers from running because they were new and didnt know the course well enough. Then they make a bit of noise from going into a turn too fast and get pulled from the event.
