| New (to me) car broke after 4 days, Does the dealer...
Well hello all, I picked up a 2007 Honda Civic Si from Brian Jessel Autohaus on Saturday, And today while i'm cruising down lougheed the Check Engine light comes on, And i have two questions: Does anyone have a similar experience with Autohaus, and did they fix it? And are there any regulations saying they need to fix it? NOTE: I haven't called them yet as they were closed, I'm just curious whether anyone has any insite to this. I will say, It seems to be a very professional, and personal dealer so i'm sure they'll take care of it perfectly, I'm just curious. |

Find out what it's for first... Call them and ask if they will do a read on the code. Might have left your gas cap loose or something. Posted via RS Mobile |

I wouldn't equate check engine light to "new car broke", but I wouldn't worry with a reputable dealer. Its probably nothing. CELs can come on for the most minor things.

It was more then just coming on and not noticing anything wrong, Car was HUGELY down on power, didn't want to start, and it idled at about 1600RPM's as opposed to it usually idling at ~7-800.

At my old shop we had ~4 dealers bring us all their trade in cars for inspections. If there we CEL's on any of them I'd call them, let them know how much it would cost to fix it, and if it was pricey they'd just ask to clear it off and send it back.
Depending on the issue it would take a bit for the light to go back on. Like the time it would take for someone to buy it and take it home. Not saying autohaus is like that but most car dealers are shady people.

gas cap wont yield limp mode from the explanation of the op.
call them, book an appt, have it checked out. im sure there is a grace period when it comes to just purchased vehicles.
some CELs takes days to turn on, waiting for the vehicle to run through its drive cycles. so could have been fine during its safety inspection.

If you're really itching to know what the problem is. Get someone with a obd2 reader and get the code(s) that's tripping the CEL
Get the code and tell them what the prolem is, don't clear the fault codes though.

Take it back to the dealer and document everything. Once you involve other shops etc then the blame game begins.
Also have a look through this website and see if anything applies to you http://www.mvsabc.com/

Consumer protection with business is 30 days after purchase.
Just take it back, if they don't want to deal with it, then go to the Motor Dealer Authority.

They're a pretty reputable dealer so I'd give them a call, and be reasonable and courteous.... Hopefully they'll do you the same.

Cold idle is around 2k rpm for the si so wouldn't worry too much if it was idling at that when it wasn't warmed up
