who knows their HID's ??? need some help alright, so im looking into getting reverse HID's for my hatch. i have done some reading around and some people say they can cause melting, some say they are cooler... do HID running the same W at a halogen run cooler or hotter? ei 15w hid vs 15w halogen ps i understand that hid bulbs are longer and can touch certain housing causing the melting, clearance isnt an issue here. google is useless with so many different answers! thanks in advance guys! |
I think OP was asking about HID's for his reverse lights, not head lights. |

Aznboi, I asked about temperature, didnt ask about glare, legality or visibility, but thank you for your reply, that being said i do have HID in a non protector housing but they are pointed pretty far down, never been high beamed once so im not to concerned. question still stands, anyone know the running temperature of hid vs halogen IN THE SAME WATT |
Hid runs cooler than halogen bulbs, and I have hid reverse lights, no problems so far, I've had them in my car for over a year Posted via RS Mobile |

so i assume that you're ordering HID reverse light and not SMD or LED? i have SMD with my reverse and they're damn bright already. pm me if you're looking for more info=) |
Do SMDs make that much difference vs stock for reverse lights? Our unlit backlane is a pain in the rear to do reverse parking. Stock reverse lights are quite dim. Any comparison pics? I'm not concerned about the color, I want the actual lumens/brightness. |
comparison video for those interested |
LOL thats fuckin ridiculously bright. is that necessary? |
I did it in my jeep. Most heating problems come from running a 55 watt bulb in what was originally a 10 watt socket (derp). They make 15 watt kitts you can buy online for relatively cheap. They might burn out quick though if your cars an auto, they'll flash everytime you from park --> drive or vice versa. |
MY BAD lol that being said hid takes time to warm up.... so you have to put it in reverse for a bit before full brightness can be achieved. also if your car is auto make sure you have a relay/delay so that it doesn't flash every time you row thru the gears |

HID reverse lights? Seriously? |
the fuck.. not sure if your serious.. getting glared by lifted trucks with no projector lens is bad enough. now I gotta get it in my face with reverse HIDs.. |

I guess having HIDs in your reverse light can help a lot when backing up in dark/hard to see areas. Not sure if it's worth the extra money though, I've been thinking about getting some myself lol |
people throw them on switches in case people tailgate or have their high beams on behind you, happens to me often, reverse light housing is usually a poor design and not very reflective so it wouldnt be anything as bad a HID in a non projected housing |
http://www.revscene.net/forums/64045...-adapters.html I'm selling my extra set, I have pics of it lit and installed on my car :fuckyea: |
lol having a switch so you can turn them on when people tailgate you? not worth the pain/soreness when they get blinded and ram into you. |

its cheaper than HIDs and its really easy to install. |

I have a pair of 9w LED reverse light, it has similar effect http://hk3.image4.pushauction.com/di...07721eab03.jpg |
^^ This. HID isn't needed and the hassle isnt worth it. LED is a much better option. They will also work better with your diffuser/refector |
great, now i can get blinded by people high beaming me from the back AND hid tail lights |
