Official GVRD Multicultural Events Thread People are always looking for things to do around town. There are lots of interesting things to do in the GVRD. I just went to a Japanese bazzar at the Tonarigumi (Japanese Community Volunteers Assn.) this morning. Nice food and wares for sale. There's a similar event tomorrow at the Japanese Hall in the DTES. Sunday November 4 « Heart of the City Festival I like local Indo Canadian events, but always miss them (find out after it's over kind of thing). This thread can keep us all updated with such events. Vancouver is really not a "No Fun" city. You just have to put in some effort and seek out the cool stuff this city has to offer. Anyway.............. |

The Singing Christmas tree, a Christmas drama and orchestra performance, is happening this weekend at Broadway church. Half an hour before performances begin, the doors are opened to non-tickets holders to fill the remaining seats in the auditorium. From past experience, there is usually enough room for all non-ticket holders to get in, so even without tickets, please do come. If you're looking for something to do for New Years, you can trek out to UBC Asian Studies Centre and ring in the New Year. Traditional Japanese Buddhist thing. Starts at 11:50 until midnight. Bell to be rung 108 times. Need to be there ahead of time. Last year, about 250 people attended. Found link to last year's event. http://vancouverbuddhisttemple.com/node/427 I couldn't make it out, because of Operation Red Nose. |

Damn, it's Vaisakhi Celebration in Vancouver today. Does this mean the Surrey one is next weekend? I recall Abbotsford have a parade as well. |
I hear the Vancouver parade is fun and family friendly, the Surrey one less so. |
I also hear lots of free food.......not sure but part of theme? As in, celebrating the thought of giving. Anyone been to the one in Abbotsford? |
The Surrey one is this upcoming Saturday. And yes, there is free food, and everyone, regardless of race or religion is welcome to attend and enjoy. |
I went to the Surrey one a few years back. It was really fun and interesting to experience a different culture. |
Not the greatest weekend for me, but gonna try really hard to go. I've always wanted to go to a Vaisakhi celebration. Could have made it to the Vancouver one, but found out about it too late. Not from RS unfortunately, but from radio. Oh well, RS can't be everything............:okay: |
Some of us were complaining about the traffic conditions within like a 3km radius in rschat that day, lol |
What is the best way to go to the surrey Vaisakhi? I have no idea how the buses are like in Surrey (unfortunately skytrain route is far from destination). And cars.... what to expect for traffic and where to park? |
I love seeing people from other ethnic groups attending the Vaisakhi, it's not a parade only for Sikhs but it's for everyone. |
