And now anyone can bring one in for a lot less money than he spent.

I know how much was spent to import this, it is nothing near the figures posted so far. Anyone would have jumped on the opportunity to import this in the condition its in and price it was.

thumper 04-16-2014 06:26 PM

i remember the for sale listing by weisaach being posted here on RS, but i could not find it in a search

The frame of the body, was NOT cut in 3 places...therefore, did NOT meat the requirements for a U - BUILD. I dont care who comes on this forum and denies it. Saw it with my own eyes. Secondly, the guy that did the inspection on the R34, passed it as a U-BUILT, and lost his license from ICBC. Thirdly, the guy that first thought that they were really smart in finding the loopholes for bringing in this R34, is now running scared in another country because of this car. The car is so heated out, that the original owner didint even want it no more.

Im not even gonna start on the bodywork....

To be fair, I don't think anyone who is willing to go to that much work, money, effort, possible legal issues, etc. to bring in an R34 is thinking about it as an investment. It probably cost as much, if not more than, a new BMW M3 to buy the car and get all the work done to "certify" it. And we all know how those things depreciate... bottom line is, if one wants it, they's getting it. It was a car that got people talking and was hella mythological (back when I was in high school, anyway). I remember seeing it on Boundary and 1st a couple of years back, mind was blown.

My guess is that ICBC and the Feds caught on to it, the guy(s) behind the car stuck it in a garage somewhere, and is waiting for the build date to hit 15 years before they try to offload it. Big loss of $$ but it's probably better than the fines and/or court costs they'll get trying to sell it...

Oh I know, but it seems like a lot of work and risk to get a car slightly earlier (then again, people camped out for weeks for a fucking phone). If the car was never going to become legal here I could understand the effort, but when they were only a couple years out it seems like a waste of effort.

I guess the one at Weissach was a different one than I'm thinking of but 180k is still a crazy mount. My friends is the one with the canucks license plate on the rear. Its bone stock and rarely driven.

tofu1413 04-17-2014 12:54 PM

the one sold from Weissach was a GT-R M spec w/ Z tune kit and Nismo LMGT4's on it..

finished in millenium jade metallic. Saw the car in the flesh in the weissach show room quite a few years ago.

SpuGen 04-17-2014 01:22 PM

I never understood the point of going through so many loopholes and spending so much money, just to get an R34 "legal" in BC.

The car is so heated out, it never gets driven. I don't see the point.

to each their own

I never understood why people are so enthusiastic about Mustang, it's a cheap plastic and you see them on the road everyday.
It horribly lacks exclusivity, which is quite important for car enthusiasts.
I don't care if it's a Mustang GT or GT500, it is still a Mustang.

Swonz 04-19-2014 09:06 PM

^ it would be pretty cool if someone could elaborate on the story of the R34

How do you explain the popularity of the Civic then? I have a semi-rare/"exclusive" car, and in a lot of ways it sucks ass because there's little to no support for a rare car.

jing 05-01-2014 12:29 AM

they never lost their licence i dont know where the idea came from.
they do full and proper inspections taking pictures of everything and keep them on file to ensure that they dont lose their licence.
and the GTR has not passed the inspection still. im not sure why, but they cant pass it atm
