Recommendation on selling car

Hi everyone,

Total newbie here :grinno:
Sorry if this post is in the wrong area but I'm wondering if anyone know a dealer who would pay a reasonable price for a pretty old used car (yes, I do realize this entire sentence sounds like an oxymoron :toot:).

I have a 2000 Camry with 122K miles on (~197K km) and the trade-in price I was given was $500 :banghead::banghead::banghead: Sigh...I'm hoping the car is not that close to junk-status considering it's been diligently serviced at Toyota Dealerships.

So....help?? :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

Better off selling it yourself.

I'll give you $505 + a box of halloween chocolates (unopened, mint condition, no dents on the packaging).

Thanks, D, but I don't think I want to fork out more cash to see my dentist :D

can include a pair of colgate tooth brushes + dentyne ice gum (almost brand new, only missing one piece) but then the car's gonna come with a full tank of gas.

Ill give u $502 ;)

well, since the pack of gum is missing one piece, I'm going to have to knock off half a tank of gas to be fair :p

do a search on CL and see what similar cars are going for and price accordingly?

Phil@rise 11-24-2012 03:42 PM

most big dealerships dont like buying cars more then 10 years old and if they do take em in on trade its gonna be for real cheap cus they just have them auctioned off.

Spectre_Cdn 11-24-2012 03:59 PM

and it's from the States; that's probably another reason for the low offer.

You should try selling is here, I'm sure someone would pay more than $500 for it.

Yes, apparently cars are also discriminated against based on where they're from :twirleye::twirleye:

my friend just bought a 97 camry for about 2500 with 240k km. you can do alot better than 500 bucks lol (i would say my friend overpaid though). The dealer is solely looking to make profit and like above, it will be auctioned off to other used car dealers due to age.

Look at craigslist and compare the pricing. is the title clean? is it leaking/burning oil? Does it squeak and make funny noises? are the tires still good? you say you have all service records from a dealership, great. make sure you note that in your posting and have proper documentation.

How much are you hoping to get for the car? I need a winter beater... PM me.

pm'd

Initially I was thinking 1500-1700 (having to cover the dreaded 12% tax!).
I'm not sure about private sale though. Never did it before - have to read it up on ICBC first :confused:

k3mps 11-24-2012 06:33 PM

assuming it runs fine, 750 cash in hand :ilied:

lynn0173 11-24-2012 06:37 PM

Maybe I should just hold a private auction on the side of the street and sell it to the highest bidder? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

bloodline129 11-24-2012 06:39 PM

Assuming the car runs good and everything is in working order is price it for 1700 and be happy getting 1200/1300 out of it...

LOL, I honestly don't mind 1200/1300 if the person knows what s/he's getting.
The car runs fine and never gave me any trouble but it is still close to 200K km - I can't guarantee at all what'll happen in the future.

take it here if its worth it

Personally, I would just drive it to the ground. 500-1k isn't alot of money or give it to a family member. Sell private if you need to get rid of it though.

Current prices on CL
vancouver, BC all for sale / wanted classifieds "2000 camry" - craigslist

Well there's good reason for it.

Alot of back east cars have lots of rust from all the salt on the roads during their harsh winters.

Alot of cars down south used to get brought up cheap because they were rebuilds and easier to disguise as "new". It's harder for us to know the real truth about cars from the states back in the days. Causes people to be more skeptical on the cars history.

Nowadays, it's a little easier due to things like carfax and what not.
