| Samsung defends 16GB S4's mere 8GB of usable storage | CNET UK
I believe the bloatware is undeletable too. One of iOS's advantages is that a 16GB iPhone has 13.5GB of free space-their iron fist means little bloatware.
Samsung in general has terrible bloatware, something to do with the title "Senior Programmer" being more of a middle management position in SK tech companies. Especially with Smart TV's.
Combine this with the removal of installing apps via SD card (Google wants you to use "the cloud") and I'm having second thoughts about getting a Droid. Yes I know I can root but not everyone is tech savvy enough to do so.

Yes I know I can root but not everyone is tech savvy enough to do so. | I think it's silly that some people are saying that since there's only 8gb of usable space it should be advertised as an 8gb phone. If I bought a laptop that's advertised with 1tb of hdd space, I'm not going to complain that the OS and other bloatware decreases that usable space down to 750gb's. Users and customers need to realize that the OS and other things manufacturers install on phones take up space. If you're that concerned about your games taking up 1gb of memory per program, then you should spend a little more and simply buy a phone with a larger hard drive.
I've owned numerous smartphones of varying HDD capacities and I've never filled any of them up, including my old iPhone 3G. Music/videos go on the SD card, and programs go on the phone.

As a consumer, I think the primary issue here is the bloatware taking up an unreasonable amount of the built-in storage space. And the worst thing is, you can't uninstall those useless crap / bloatware.
In a laptop, at least I can run decraptify or something to un-install / remove those useless junk. But Samsung doesn't allow you to do that. The only way to get rid of those is to root the phone, and not everyone is comfortable with doing that.

Many people are on tight budgets, so saying "spend more money for a bigger HD" will fall of deaf ears. "Why are they buying a premium smartphone then?" Well, people still try to save money even when buying the latest phone.
Re: SD cards-increasingly, many Android devices do not have SD card slots (like the Nexus 4). Google is trying to have people use the cloud to store their apps and data-this will only jack up many people's cell phone bills.

I can be ok if it takes anywhere form 25 to 30%.
Also with a laptop I can just unstall all theseb bloatware and be done with it. With the S4 I can't do that.

I just took a look at my S3 and noticed something that I don't think I've ever paid attention to before. It's a 16gb unit but my total storage capacity is only 11.96gb. I've got 1.13gb of apps, 3.76gb of photos/videos, and 114mb of adui/downloads/misc files. All that equals to a total amount of free space of 6.55gb. The actual Android OS only takes 28.79mb of space.
So... maybe there is some validity in these complaints. I'm curious to see what's in the S4's App Manager and see what the biggest hardspace hogs are.

The size of bloatware isn't of utmost importance at its state right now.
Bloatware on laptop/PC takes a few clicks to get rid of; bloatware on cellphones cannot be removed without voiding your warranty IIRC.
What if Samsung decides to install a spyware disguised as a bloatware?
Is that still okay because the users have plenty of space left?
Is it okay if Yahoo messenger (not sure if it exists) comes preinstalled on your new bought PC, albeit takes unnoticeable amount of storage, but irremovable?
Why aren't both, computers and smartphones, being treated the same way?

If anyone wants to compare I do have an S3 on CG 10 and we can do a simple speed comparison. What boggles my mind is the amount of lag it has when the benchmarks all show as one of the fastest phones on the market right now.
I'm going to do a quick comparison running apps and such later tonight with my S3 and see too. I lent it to a family member and haven't used it in quite a while.
Things like unlocking phone shows a little lag going to home screen. Lag when bringing up keyboard. A little lag when closing apps and such. I don't get it, how can this be better or be solved...

Double press the home button to bring it up, skip through the setup and go into the menu, disable the checkbox that says something like "open s voice with double press home"
This did help with the home button lag on my S3 but didn't help the lag when opening apps and such.
