| Need Advice on aftermarket double DIN
Hey Revscene,
I need some expert advice on which route to take. As there are Pro's and Con's to both choices. I just purchased a 2010 Mazda CX7 with Bose and wandering which in your opinion would be the best way to go, cost and feature wise. I would like to keep my bose system minus the head unit.
option 1- To purchase a DVD double din system that works with the factory unit/ steering wheel controls/ back up camera etc etc. Might not have as much features as option 2 2010 2012 2 DIN DVD GPS Player for Mazda CX 7 CX7 DVD Nav Radio Bose Compatible | eBay
option 2- To purchase a aftermarket unit like the pioneer X940 BT and buy a metra install kit + extra's. I know the Pioneer would have more features then Option 1.
Thanks alot for your advice and Merry Xmas!

Is $ going to be a limiting factor?
With option 1, your cost is going to be $600ish but you'll retain factory everything.
With option 2, you'll spend around $1000 on the head unit, then more $$$ for the install kit, harness and adapter for the steering wheel controls.
With option 2, you will have a USB port and be able to play other formats including mp3's and avi's on your thumb drive.

THanks for the reply... I mean if the difference is going to be 600 dollars vs 1500 dollars to get the same setup , then it makes alot of sense to go with the 600 dollar option. But if the difference is going to be 600 dollars to 1100 dollars then I might consider since I'm expecting a higher quality unit and all my factory everything working.
edit .. it looks like there is some type of usb/sd option in the option 1 deck. format on video shows

If that is the case, then go with option 1.

Some of these might be a little tough to make them fit with an aftermarket kit but they include everything. Car GPS DVD - XTRONS GPS Car DVD for useful car navigation
Kit, harness and antenna adaptor is probably another $60 or so. Posted via RS Mobile |

I have installed a few of those Ebay decks and well, they are pretty crappy. They are very slow to start up, have terrible resolution compared to some of the good aftermarket screens, the user interface is very cheesy and outdated looking and sometimes, the features like steering wheel control don't work right out of the box. Same goes with Innovatek, Boss, Eonon and other Chinese decks that are cheap and don't fit properly as Catlin sais.
I can't tell you how many of our customers have come to our shop only to remove the Ebay deck and replace it with something liks a Pioneer, Alpine or JVC.
You get what you pay for!

I've installed some as well but I've had the best results with the Xtrons and Eonon units. The UI's have come a looonngg way compared to some others out there.
Only bad thing about them is that if something does go wrong you'd have to send the head unit and wait for a replacement.
Local is definitely better for service. Posted via RS Mobile |

I just noticed that the 940BT is on sale for $600 so I'd say go that route over the Ebay one. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...c408bc6cbben02
If you are lucky, maybe one of the RS sponsors can do something for you.

That was my plan initially, but the issues comes to:
1) new deck has to power my Bose factory system
2) new deck got to be able to use my factory backup camera, steering wheel
Control, etc....
What would the cost come down to for installation of a deck, buying steering wheel module, metra installation kit, Bose capatibilty harness (heard the Bose amp run on different ohms ratings then aftermarket deck output. Just feels like its Alot more work vs just a straight plug and play deck. Probly labour for the install would be doubled not including the extra parts to make it work with the factory system.
Is there anyway of getting a quality deck that would be able to plug and play with the car? Posted via RS Mobile |
