Altima vs Maxima

Very interesting...
Altima is faster, bigger, gets better gas mileage...and $8,000 cheaper.

I think it also looks a bit nicer too eh

Domani 12-25-2012 05:54 PM

comes down to the details, ur paying for the more infiniti-ish interior, better materials, gas strut hood.

jing 12-25-2012 06:11 PM

The design for the current Maxima is also a few years old now

jpark 12-25-2012 06:26 PM

god i hate that cvt sound

Akinari 12-25-2012 07:07 PM

CVT makes cars sound like whiny bitches.

dared3vil0 12-25-2012 07:30 PM

I will NEVER buy a car with a CVT. I had to drive one for less than a week in the summer, The whine gave me MAJOR headaches. I'm not kidding.

Manuals = <3

comparing new altima with old maxima. I wouldnt spend 40k on a maxima when I could get a slightly used g37..much better looking and better performing than both of those.

dared3vil0 12-25-2012 07:43 PM

Something i'll add, The old ones are REALLY, And i mean REALLY slow... I had a 2000 (VQ30DE-K) It was a little over 9 seconds to 100KM/H, Used like 15.2L/100KM, And had reliability issues. Was chasing CEL's to due with a bad MAF for almost a year... Whenever you went remotely fast, Limp mode and CEL. I haven't driven the 7th gens, But i would imagine they're just boats now...

watch from 2:16...I don't think Maxima's interior is significantly better.
Not for $8,000 more at least.

To be honest this comparison's rather pointless. The Altima is a brand new model with Nissan's newest innovations with their new design concept, while the current Maxima came out in 2009. Of course the Altima will have the upper hand until the Maxima receives a redesign sometime in 2014.

I would have to disagree, from a consumer point of view that is in the market of buying a car, these two models would be the ones available not a redesigned model in the future.

You must have an automatic...

2000 Nissan Maxima SE (Manual) 0-60 mph 6.6 Quarter mile 14.9

i had the same problem.. for my 2000 max as well. ended up blowing the ecu and electronic motor mounts.. really pricey to fix.. acceleration was quicker than that thought.. and fuel economy was no where near as bad as yours.

this is like the acura tl shawd vs a acura rl shawd.. the tl has more power, faster, and cost much less.

I'm 99.9% sure the previous owner didn't maintain it AT ALL, The reason i ended up selling it was the trans went at 150KM, Which is WAY too early, And i only bought the car at 142KM, Drove it for less than a year. (febuary-october) It really shows you what properly caring for a car does... And to top it off, It was starting to rust quite badly on the rear quarter panels. Most likely from the previous owner not washing/waxing car at all.
