So maybe 7.0L Equivalent?
Like Lexus LS600h...

Because it'll be weird to put random numbers...G37, QX56, M45, etc..those numbers indicate the displacement.

Meh, never been a fan of Skyline Sedans/G series models except for the V35. I'll wait for the coupe and save judgement till then.

i dont think it stands for displacement, its just the series.

so m45 will be Q70

and q45 replacement would be Q90 or something

It's like the Volvo range. The C30 isn't a 3 Litre; the XC90 isn't a 9 litre; sometimes numbers are just numbers.

Many manufacturers car model names aren't matching displacement anymore. Not long ago they matched because engines usually got more displacement in successive years, but that's changing now because of fuel economy requirements.

Cars like the E63 AMG aren't 6.3 (err 6.2) liters, it's now a 5.5 TT. But to rename it back to an E55 AMG would be a confusing as well since the successor to the E63 was the E55. Same with the BMW 640....with a 3.0 TT - to go down to a 630 would sound like a downgrade compared to the previous models.

Regarding the new Q50, I like it - especially the interior. Now it's time to see if Infiniti will put the GTR engine in any of their vehicles...

link to auto show reveal...

whole bunch of brand new tech in this car, looks a lot nicer in the reveal

3.7 V6 328 HP
3.5 V6 Hybrid 360 HP---> going to be pretty fast as I believe this is the same motor that is offered in the Current M which does 0-60 mph in 5.1 secs. With the Q50 being lighter should put up some fast numbers. We will have to wait and see.

Lots more info here

Detroit 2013: 2015 Infiniti Q50 to Get Four-Cylinder

The Infiniti Q50 is all-new, but brand chief Johan de Nysschen is already looking ahead two years, when the G-sedan replacement finally gets a much-needed four-cylinder.

“I imagine that with a powerful and efficient turbocharged four-cylinder we could probably see the total sales mix exceeding 40 percent, and all that’s incremental to what we have today.”

The four-cylinder is being developed in cooperation with Mercedes-Benz and will be paired with an eight-speed automatic, de Nysschen says. The Q50 goes on sale late this summer offering a 3.7-liter V-6 and a smaller six-cylinder hybrid powertrain.

There’s no doubt four-cylinders are becoming more important than ever in premium sedans. BMW has enjoyed so much success with its four-cylinder 3-series that it’s introducing another variant, the 320i. In fact, it’s fair to wonder why Infiniti didn’t have such an engine ready for the Q50’s launch. De Nysschen, who came to the brand last summer from Audi, admits this is “an inhibitor” particularly in global markets like China and Europe.

“This is part of our history, being very U.S.-centric, where it was not considered important to have four-cylinder gasoline and clean diesel powertrains, for that matter,” he says.

The four-cylinder won’t replace either of the six-cylinders; however, speaking earlier, de Nysschen hinted that the venerable 3.7-liter V-6 will not hang around forever.

“I think it’s an absolutely outstanding engine, but if we look at global regulations that begin to penalize you on engine capacity, that is the kind of development that would begin to steer us into 3.0-liter turbocharged engine,” he said.

The Q50’s styling will also distinguish it from competitors, which tend to be quite conservative to appease European and Chinese tastes. The Q50, in contrast, has an expressive design derived from the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept. “It’s quite an aggressive look,” says Infiniti design director Shiro Nakamura. He’s nevertheless confident this styling will play well even in notoriously conservative China, where Infiniti hopes to grow sales to 200,000 by the end of the decade. “The overall proportions are very authentic — there’s nothing too much like a wedge,” he says, adding that the most popular Infiniti model in China is the wild FX.

As for an even wilder Q50, we can expect more powerful variants, but the brand is still deciding whether it will be along the lines of the outgoing IPL model or a head-on challenger the likes of the M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

“Anything is possible. The dynamic capabilities of this platform are very significant, and it can handle far higher power than the engines we are using,” de Nysschen says.

Although the Q50 will no doubt play a critical role for Infiniti — the G was by far the brand’s bestseller — de Nysschen cautions that it’s only the first step in the brand’s growth.

“We are now creating a powerful platform for the future. I have my sights on 2025, not on the end of this year.”

Colour me disappointed but not surprised.

The car appears to be merely a makeover of the existing car - same coarse but muscular drivetrain, same chassis (no mention of all-new or even evolution). I was hoping for something that was closer to a 328i and instead it gets a bit bigger but not between the wheels (it's pretty cramped in there).

Not surprised because Infiniti is not a brand with a heck of a lot of budget. They are licensing Mercedes engines, they are borrowing Nissan parts heavily (the JX35 doesn't even pretend to not be a badge engineered car) and their best seller shares a relatively old, inflexible chassis resulting in the M and G being similarly sized like Acura had done with the TL/RL.

To me, they are in the same mess that Acura and Jaguar are in right now. They are bringing knives to a gunfight with Audi, BMW, Cadillac and MB and they are gonna lose badly.

IMO Using Q and QX as a prefix for their vehicles is fine... but I bet they were thinking...
3 Series...
A4...
I know! What about using the number 5 to indicate our product? Because 5 > 4 > 3! (and so on and so forth with their other remaining vehicles).
I highly doubt they were reserving space for 4 different vehicles placed under the Q50...

Fixed that for you. Good visual designs, meh chassis/powertrain, horrible names.

I just saw the video and Infiniti really is bragging about the exterior design, but I found that the new Lexus IS is better...by far.

I've just read two posts you've made talking about how lexus is better so I'll just assume you have some bias but too each their own.
