I wouldn't say the manual is great stock either, for some reason they didn't use the transmission from the NA Supra and went with a truck based one with a massively heavy flywheel, it took a lot of massaging and creativity to get it to a point where it feels useable and even then you gotta wait for it to warm up as it can feel super notchy otherwise. That said, I do wish the automatic was a manual more often than I wish the manual was an automatic lol
I've lusted for a IS300 manual for the longest time. You just dampened the parade.

Just get an Altezza.
Same same.
You'll have more fun with the Beams 3S.
Also shares the transmission with the S15 Spec R. So if you really wanted to, you could SR swap it.

^ I've always wondered what the hype on beams was, I drove an auto one years ago and it was gutless there was no torque. It felt like driving a ls integra.

Altezza 6MT was more four door ae86 than four door S2000.

There’s full suspension and wheels and exhaust too... I don’t know that people should expect to get their mods back but I wouldn’t put this car in the fail thread.
Could also get a brand new base Gt with track pack 2 for 50k. This thing is massive fail!

I think you have to rev the piss out of the BEAMS 3S, which the auto isn't going to let you do properly.

I gotta ask, how old are you guys? I’m 31 and could not care less about the is300. Just curious if maybe I was the key couple years too young, or just no one had that car in highschool

I'm the same age and I've wanted an IS/Altezza since high school. Nobody I knew could afford a car like that at the time though, hell I've never even been in one.

Having owned both the GS400 and Altezza, and driven the 2J variants of both..

GS/Aristo in either 2JZGTE or 1UZ wins hands down.
Once lowered and with a proper diff, it would be the easiest, comfiest, and most fun to drive.

I partially regret straight trading my GS for the current Altezza lol.
Dimensionally similar to a Corolla. A bit small.
But 6sp + LSD makes rainy day drives fun. Just wish it would hold longer slides. GS wins this hands down.

That's a DECENT looking paint job from the pics. Look at the engine bay and undercarriage and jambs.

No spray bomb there. That shits expensive if he paid a shop. Seen many guys pay 20-30k for paint.

I drove a Gita for a bit and it was super cramped. And it just felt weird, like the seating position was crooked.

I think the bed is actually fine, the cab looks tweaked. Look at the wheel gaps/ground clearance on both sides of it.

I'm westopher's age lol... I was always interested in them because I liked the styling of the frontend... I was never crazy about the rear and the whole "altezza" trend it started.......... and we got things a bit neutered here since it only came with the i6 and mostly automatic whereas other parts of the world got turbo and high-revving NA 4's in addition to the i6.

Stock the suspension isn't amazing for handling, can't compare to a 3-series of that era, but if you drop it just a little bit and put proper shocks on it the whole car wakes up.

For me, sitting in it, you can't beat the greenhouse space it just feels fantastic to sit in/see out of and it's luxurious + sporty + smooth and pretty bulletproof. Both of mine have been stone axe reliable. Extremely positive feedback from steering and all pedals.

It provides an experience you can't buy anymore driver-feel wise and it's a pretty iconic car from the JDM lore side of things and, personally, I think the styling has aged really well.

One thing I have noticed about it though in my years of owning them, guys LOVE this car... lots of guys will tell you they always wanted one or they love how they look... but girls hate it almost universally. I cannot explain why lol, but I've noticed that over and over.

23, and have always wanted that car. But a shitbox M3 is better than paying 10K for one. My neighbor had 3 of them, yellow, silver, and white. The yellow one is my favorite. That's probably why I have a liking to them. Funny thing is, that's how I ended up in the E46 platform in the first place. A shop on my walk home had a few.

My aunt was choosing between the Is300 when it was new vs C class. They ended up with c class. I just remember the is was pretty cramped in the back. C class was pretty nice and luxurious at the time.
