| Ford Edge?
I'm looking at buying myself a preowned Ford Edge, probably 2008ish. Anyone own one and willing to share likes or dislikes? I like the fact it's large enough for camping, packing the kids sports crap in and comes in AWD.
I live really close to work, only 10kms and in the summer I commute on my motorcycle most the time so I really don't care that much about gas mileage. I'm more concerned about any reliability things I should be on the lookout for? From what I've read some of them have transmission issues, anything else?
Thank you in advance.

From what I dealt with, fairly reliable vehicles.
What trim are you going to get it in? Even in the lowest trim IIRC there were a ton of nice stock features in the 2011/12 models we carried.
Only thing I can really comment on is the interior on the new fords -- it holds up very well to abuse (speaking from experience working w/ rental cars). They literally look brand new after 30-40,000 kms of abuse (i.e. people beating the shit out of them, taking them on long road trips, etc) whereas a lot of the imports don't hold up as well.
In terms of reliability no real issues that the ones we owned ran into (that I know of .. I did roadside assistance and don't recall any calls for any of the fords aside from operating specific features)
Just out of curiosity though, any reason to look past the Flex? The eco boost one is fun as hell to drive, has tons of power, AWD, good on gas if you can control the urge to punch it. It does look uglier, though

The power transfer unit for the AWD system are known to leak, but is an easy fix. If it has a glass opening roof make sure it works through the full range.

Ford edge is a well built vehicle, the glass roof is also an easy fix, get into the newer model with the My Ford Touch Sync system....

One of my best buds has one. He's had it for about 3-4 years now, no real issues, just maintenance stuff. He's done brakes, tires, etc. Interior is indeed pretty tough and solid. It rides solid and feels safe. Only little flaw is the tail lights aren't sealed great so moisture gets in. It doesn't matter for you, but it really is a bit of a guzzler, especially for a smaller crossover. I'd imagine the FWD model is a little better.
The facelifted/Lincoln badged models look really nice with the bigger wheels.

id suggest looking at a Mazda CX-9 as well, same platform, 3 rows (edge is 2?) i think it looks a bit nicer and it has a 3.7 vs 3.5 so a bit more power.

The Edge is great. My cousin has the 08, actually.
Never had a single issue. Just regular maintenance.
I must say the 2011 facelift looks pretty good.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm going to look at a private sale after work today, hopefully it checks out.

Based on aesthetics i'd look for the Sport, looks so much better than the other trim models with the bigger wheels and all. Looks more complete.

I didn't like the seats on trips more than an hour. Other than that, good vehicle.

The Edge would be more of a CX-5 or CX-7 competitor.

I bought an '11 Limited for my wife to drive. She loves it. 3.5L V6 AWD. We don't have any complaints. None. It's an amazing vehicle.

The CX-7 & CX-5 are different platforms.
