Weren't they going to change the regulations so that teams could no longer do that dramatic "step" in the middle of the nose with the hopes of making the cars less ugly? I think I remember reading that somewhere. Or am I on crack.
I don't know what the incentive to using it is, since it just adds weight. F1 constructors aren't exactly in the business of adding superfluous weight.

they had talked about in 2012....I found this article
Really looking forward to 2013. I've been watching F1 since the 80s, and it got rather dull about 10-15 years ago. And then, all of a sudden, a few years back, it got super exciting again. This is a really great time to be watching F1. And the '14 season (new engines) should be interesting as well.
I'll definitely be watching all the races. And it's all in HD these days, which makes it even better
^ It was a little surprising that they cut Kobuashi....but I guess they like what they saw in their test driver.
Anyway pics from Sauber release today (I actually really like the look of this car)
I think Kobayashi just didn't have the financial backing to secure a seat. Him and Perez were pretty evenly matched. It's all about the money and business these days...

Yeah Kobayashi didn't really have any sponsorship support and he had to rely on donations for financial backing but it wasn't enough iirc. Was hoping Force India would pick him up to team up with Di Resta but he said he'd take take break this year, hopefully we'll see him again next year. Posted via RS Mobile

in mclaren's case they used the extra space to move things up i think and make some extra space under the nose for more aerodynamics
Infiniti to become Red Bull Racing title sponsor 25 Nov 2012
Red Bull Racing have agreed a four-year extension of their partnership with Infiniti, the premium automotive brand from Japan, which first began in March 2011. The increased agreement will see Infiniti become title partner from 2013, meaning Red Bull Racing’s team name will become Infiniti Red Bull Racing from the start of next season.
