That would be pretty crazy...fake your own death..then come back and pick off the remaining people on the list. Then the LAPD would be complete screwed cuz now they have to explain who they had burned/murdered in that cabin! The people would come down hard on the LAPD...Dorner would have then achieved his goals.

Harper responded by saying accusations should be taken up with the police.

The thing is, and I think this is the reason why a surprising amount of people are on Chris Dorner's side, is because we all know corruption exists. We all know it's currently present.
It doesn't matter if we're talking about the LAPD or Congress. It doesn't matter if we're talking about your fortune 500 execs or your bankers. We all know its there. We all know its happening but I guess for some reason, we've grown not to only expect that it occurs alongside power and authority, but have also grown to accept it.
At least that's why I'm rooting for him. I guess I'm embarrassed to say I've also come to accept what kind of world it is and have just learned to live with it.

So they've confirmed it's him.
The whole incident just smells fishy.

I wonder if security is cleared to stand down from protecting the people on Dorner's hit list.
Or maybe they might just keep a security detail around them for a while just in case there's some crazy nuts out there who want to continue his killing spree.

Maybe the LAPD and Dorner agreed to a settlement of some sort and they collectively faked his death?
LAPD: If you drop your case against us, we will give you a new alias, here's XXX amount of money, now go away.
Dorner: Done.
This wouldn't explain the cop deaths, but it makes for a wicked movie.

Didn't seem like a man that would take money and just completely ignore his agenda.
That would seem like a surrender as well by both parties and I don't think the LAPD like "losing".

Kind of on a different note... But I found this AMA on reddit a couple days ago and it was a pretty interesting read. Its a Toronto Cop by the way. Canadian police officer AMA : IAmA
Would be cool to see an LAPD officer do their own version of this, even though it is pretty unlikely.

| Brave Heroes Denied $1.3 Million Reward For Finding Killer Cop Quote:
When the ex-LAPD supervillain Christopher Dorner rampaged across Southern California last month, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced a million-dollar reward for information leading to Dorner's capture. Three brave heroes who survived their encounters with Dorner have since claimed the reward, but the stingy governments and groups who offered the money now refuse to pay because Dorner somehow didn't survive an army of cops roasting and demolishing the mountain cabin he holed up inside for his last stand.
Jim and Karen Reynolds survived a real-life crappy thriller movie when Dorner tied them up and held them prisoner in their nearby vacation cabin, and Rick Heltebrake lived through a harrowing carjacking by Dorner. Now the so-called community leaders who offered the reward are saying, "Ehh, Dorner didn't actually make it to being convicted, so maybe we'll just keep this money."
A lawyer working for the Reynolds couple says local governments cannot get out of paying the reward just because Dorner died in the battle. “California law Penal Code 1547E states that local government is authorized to issue rewards that are paid on the capture and/or conviction of the suspect, and if the suspect dies, in the course of a police dispute or while in police custody then the requirement that he be convicted is eliminated,” attorney Kirk Hallam told ABC News in Los Angeles.
There's a law for this because California cops are all crazy war veterans and cyborgs, and pretty much any Wanted Suspect ends up full of bullets, or burnt down to a skeleton, or exploded.

Paying out the 1.3M is probably cheaper than going through the court process and putting him in prison for 10 years while he appeals.
Just pay the fucking reward.

I think the original intent of the reward was for people who actually provided information for his capture and not so much for people that were robbed/tied up who would have called 911 regardless. It's almost like whoever ran into Dorner and lived to tell about it wins the lotto.

Obviously this will lead to the wrong conclusion of what I intended to say.
And it seems that my guess in the previous post came very close to why there is some difficulty for some in paying out the award. Quote:
"However, for some unspecified donors, the issue is who is seeking the reward:
Underlying their objections is a moral argument that donors will not make publicly. Some find the claims for the money unseemly. They believe reward seekers had called police to report they were victims of crimes by Dorner and now seek to profit from their brief encounters, which left them unharmed, during a rampage that devastated the families of police officers and of others he killed.
