Anthony Wong, the new film’s leading man, said comparing the roles was hard because he plays a different time in Ip Man’s life. He plays Ip Man from his arrival in Hong Kong in 1949 until his death.
I didn't know Anthony Wong was mixed until I googled him today

he's the samuel l jackson of HK he's in everything!
I was like when i read that another Ip Man movie was being made but now that i know its not donnie yen and i watched the trailer it actually looks good; already looks better than donnie yens
Yeah I was just gonna say,
as long as Donnie Yen is not playing the lead role anymore, sure I'll buy into the trilogy
The man is a legend in Hong Kong, there are very few who were as important in terms of martial arts. The only person who they could have raped the legacy harder by selling him out to the communists would be Bruce Lee... and I'm sure that's coming eventually. His story is more well known though, so if it does happen, it might not be shown outside China, or it would have to be a little less obvious.
Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, even Jet Li all whored themselves out. But they are still alive, so it's their choice. But to fuck over people who can't defend their honor is beyond fucked, and I won't support it.
FYI on 黃秋生; he's mixed, dad left him long time ago, he still used to write postcards to 黃秋生 when he was young, but all in all, he was in school, he was mixed but didn't know how to speak english. He got beat up a lot in school, and each time, he would curl up to protect himself. He thought to himself, the more he curled up to get beat up, he would get punched more. So the next time he stood up and be a man and guys were scared to bully him.
曾志偉 is 60 and 黃秋生 took a yr training for this movie. at the end 曾志偉 and 黃秋生 both did 1 take to finish that scene and at the end, both were badly bruised...

Hmm, no wonder his Cantonese sounds accented - at least to me.

did you know he has his own CD and it was probably one of the first few songs that actaully had "foul" language in it. it was one of the FEW songs that were banned from the radio. (the other one was 1994's Sammi Cheng 鄭秀文 《十誡》 cause there were "moaning" sounds.
anyways, that's another thread.
I haven't really followed the entire series but why is Donnie Yen not in this movie? What's the story behind it?

It's not a sequel to the Yen movies, it's another film about the same man. (another recent film, The Grandmaster, was also about him)
This one takes place after he fled to HK in 1949, until his death, so it should be interesting to see how he is portrayed. Especially since this seems to be a pure HK film, rather than a PRC film that the first 2 Ip Mans were, and The Grandmaster. So maybe it'll be a bit more truthful and less propaganda-ish.
