Shit I thought I was crazy for thinking this back in the day.

For me personally, Husky seems like the best fuel with the least knocking... But if there isn't one around I go to Chevron...because I like blue. :derp:

Kinda makes me mad actually that ive been paying for what I thought was the best fuel we can get.

That being said.

Is chevron 94 better if its tuned for then 91 or is the 91 still better??

94 Chevron is still better than 91 Chevron. We've confirmed this on the dyno. Some people have said that 91 Shell is better than 94 Chevron. We haven't tested this yet but we will soon. Hopefully R. Mutt can chime in soon and let us know how his datalogs turn out

Good to know and thanks for sharing. There aren't many out here in Vancouver, just a few scattered around town here and there unfortunately.

Dear customer,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our 94 Octane fuel. The discontinuation of our premium 94 Octane fuel comes as a result of changes to regulations that restrict the Reid Vapour Pressure (RVP) of gasoline. RVP measures the volatility of gasoline. In short, the addition of ethanol to gasoline adds to the overall RVP of the product.

For some time, Husky has received special allowance to produce and distribute our ethanol-blended 94 Octane gasoline; however, this allowance is no longer in place and as a result, our suppliers have chosen not to continue to provide Husky with our premium fuel.

The unfortunate outcome, as you've experienced, is that we can no longer provide our ethanol-blended premium fuel to our customers. Husky still supplies high-quality, ethanol-blended regular & mid-grade (87 & 89 Octane) and 91 Octane (no ethanol) fuel at most locations across the province.

We know this is a disappointment and for this, we apologize. We sincerely hope that you will continue to choose Husky and Mohawk for our other exceptional products and services, as well as for your refuelling needs.

Kind Regards,

first time i took the gto down to states and filled up on 92 chev/texaco i FELT the car ran better, but didnt take my datalogger so i thought nothing of it.

second time took my logger.
i was able to run an average of 2deg more timing in my whole band before knock.
filled with 94 again, knock came back and had to back off the timing.
all on 11afr, 17psi.
im convinced.
doesnt really matter now that im running meth inj.

after reading some of the comments here im thinking of trying shells 91. was always put off cause its same price as chev 94 and 3 less octane.

bcrdukes 03-16-2013 08:22 PM

Bonus for Shell 91 is it has no ethanol (not sure about all pumps though.)

Well...for me shell 91 was no difference at all..

Will be trying states gas next time in down there....and after that water/meth

Did you base this on a butt-dyno or actual dyno pulls? It takes a while for your ECU/DME to adjust accordingly to the fuel you are using. One tank full is usually not sufficient, I find.

beproud 03-17-2013 05:36 PM

Anybody use esso?? I'm also thinking about switching from the 94 chevron

cdizzle_996 03-18-2013 05:29 AM

Meh, im just going to start using 89 in my 400whp civic...:fullofwin:

jtanner_ 03-18-2013 07:47 AM

Definitely in to see RG's results on the dyno...

Chevron 92 all the way back from the states no knock, yesterday I was experiencing knock on Chevron 94...

Going to try Shell 91 probably next...

MG1 03-18-2013 07:56 AM

A little off topic, but any of you use octane boost additive?

Not sure which one of the many brands out there works and if it is feasible, as in cost effective. If 94 is that hard to get, then this may be the route to go?

When towing heavy loads with my truck, I need higher octane gas. I don't tow that often, so not going to keep filling with higher rated gas. It's a lot easier for me to pour in some octane boost when needed, me thinks. Any advice would be welcome.

IMASA 03-18-2013 08:10 AM

Most octane boosters don't really work, raise only very little octane and can foul your plugs.

I run methanol injection to deal with our gas issues, however, I use it mostly for cooling and cleaning, perfering not to run an agressive tune.

That is not good news. I haven't actually needed 94 since the fall as the car "hibernates" during the winter.

Too bad local VP Fuel dude is no longer around.

VP-100 Fuel

How much was that worth?

I hope not as much as I pay for C16.. $5.75/L

MG1 03-20-2013 06:24 AM

It's way more than that, but so popular. They can't keep it in stock.

There must be gas stations in the Lower Mainland that still offer 94 octane gas. Need to start list.

ughhh all chevrons have 94 octane.... its just has no ethnol

Triballurker 03-20-2013 03:33 PM

Yup...the issue isnt finding 94...the issue is our 94 sucks.

I filled up with a second tank of Shell 91. So far its running the same as always.

I will be tuning it for chevron 94 and running meth

MG1 03-20-2013 03:37 PM

^ Ok, got it now. I recall filling up the truck with 94 before towing a heavy load up to Ashcroft last summer. It was at a Husky gas station, not Chevron.

Try Petrol Canada 94, it is pretty similar to Husky 94

Iceman-19 03-21-2013 12:16 AM

You guys ever stop and think that the reason the 94 you are getting is causing det is because its old and stals? With gas prices so high majority of people use whatever is cheapest. The expensive fuel sits in the holding tanks and condensates.
