I'll go first! :)

I go to this one every year, as they almost always have raptors to photograph after the talk. The talk itself is geared more towards the beginner level though, but can be informative. The presenter, Ursula can ramble on a bit and go off tangent, but she is a very nice lady and very passionate about wildlife conservation. I just signed up this morning, and there were 7 spots left.

Ian Ruhter will be premiering his new video and giving a talk on his wet plate/collodion process. I had dinner with him last night, and he's a really cool dude!

Ian Ruhter - "Silver and Light" Behind the Story
Photographer Ian Ruhter has teamed up with his director / partner Lane Power on a journey that few photographers are willing to take: giving up life as a successful snowboard / sports photographer to pursue a dream; follow his art and passion wherever it leads. Risk everything, invest his life savings in his dream and hit the road in a giant camera to shoot massive wet plates. Not for the faint of heart.

Ian's wet plates are captivating, stunning and beautiful. Mountains, cityscapes and portraits all tell part of the story, the rest is being documented in a series of videos.
The videos not only reveal the Silver and Light project, but tell much more about the thoughts and passion in the process, while revealing many very personal human stories. It makes for compelling stories about the photography shot with a process from the 1850's and documented on the latest Digital SLR cameras and gear. Ian and Lane will discuss the creative and production process they use and share some of their latest work.

Vancouver Camera Show

Unfortunately, I can't go again this year. :(

I went last year... but I only had new camera lens, etc, in mind - there wasn't much of that at all. I might go this year to see if I can score a deal on an old manual lens. I wonder if it'll be worth it.

Might consign my old 40D, that thing is hard to sell.

The Canadian Imaging Trade Show is happening between Sunday and Monday at the Hyatt Downtown (just off the Burrard Skytrain Station)

Admission is $10 unless you find an attendee who's willing to give you their free pass!

I'm tempted to attend on Sunday just to see the different gear the different vendors may have.

^what exactly is that? website doesn't say very much and I have never heard of it before. Is there booths with new gear? or is it all just special guest speakers

I'm surprised. 40D is a great camera. I think it took me only a couple weeks to sell mine.

Come and say "Hi". :)
Two of my images are featured on that website - the BC Place one, and the 9 O'clock Gun one! :D

It's the PPOC (Professional Photographers Of Canada) annual convention - it's being held in Vancouver this year. The trade show is open to the general public, but the workshops and speakers are limited to PPOC members only. Yes, there will be lots of new gear from Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Hasselblad & Phase one available to fondle/try, along with many other lighting & accessory makers like Manfrotto, Rogue, Profoto, Dynalite, Marshall Monitors, NEC Monitors, etc... The trade show is mostly oriented towards pro gear, not consumer level gear, as it is a trade show for industry people. Rumours of the new Nikon 800mm f5.6 making an appearance are making the rounds... :)

Almost forgot...

There is a trade show and workshop/speaker event geared towards consumers on April 26 & 27. Sounds like a nice little event.

Dropped by the Canadian Imaging Trade Show. They weren't checking passes at the door so you literally could have just waltzed right in. Best part was definitely being able to try out all sorts of different lens and body combinations (even your own!). Nikon even had a model at their booth so you can take photos with her! The only other vendor that was showing lens was at the Tamaron booth. I did say hit to Senna4ever as well :-)
