Sketchy bodyshop?

I have decided to follow through with an insurance claim, but am getting some other damage fixed without insurance. When I got an estimate, it was verbal and when I asked for a written estimate the shop owner asked me to send him my insurance information first. Will I be screwed over by sending him the insurance information or is it safe for me to do that? I just want a written estimate before I hand the keys over but don't want to be screwed over. By him having my insurance information will he be able to somehow force me to do the claim?

I don't really know much about going through with claims and insurance stuff so any help would be appreciated

Why dont you just go to a different shop then?

Cause this guy is way cheaper than other shops and I've heard they do good paint jobs. New owner now though, not sure if its the same staff..

Hearing someone doing good job is much different than actually seeing the work , i could refer you to my shop , they do top notch jobs and take very good care of you.

A bit more on expensive side though.

For a claim you should have a claim form, all the work stated is on there. Bring it to a bodyshop of your choice. As for asking for you insruance info, he cant really do much with it if the work doesn't get done. He's probably asking so he can get the claim# and paperwork for you. He can't claim any money until the jobs done and the paperwork has been signed by YOU.

Just make sure not to sign the claim until AFTER the jobs been completed.

You're being a little over paranoid lol.

I can also refer you to my shop. pm if interested. Just had my hood fixed with them and was $400+ cheaper. He takes a while to do the job (extra 2-3 days) but sticks to the quoted price.

If ICBC just gave you a claim#, and you are bringing it to an express shop, you could just leave your info there. Even if they draw in the claim through ICBC, it wont affect you, as they cannot do anything with it until the claim gets approved, and you sign off on everything.

But if you're this paranoid, I would seriously just consider another shop.

I'd rather not say which shop, but I was just slightly suspicious because in person he was fine, but when I asked over the phone he refused to give me an estimate on paper and he got very impatient. Anyone have any recommendations for shops in the tri-cities/east burnaby/new west area?

I know they are not in the area you are looking for, but I highly recommand Burrard Autostrasse. I have taken my cars to a few different shops in the past and no other shop even come close to the quality at Burrard AutoStrasee.
