Now I'll want it independently inspected, have someone test drive it for me, what do you think I should offer them for it.

Already a pretty damn good price... I'd offer 19,500 out the door and leave with 20,500 otd.
EDIT: Accident? I would pass.
EDIT 2: Twenty grand accident would have me RUNNING for the door.

Pretty big accident. I would pass unless they lower the price even more.

haha. BBB can't do shit to companies anyway so i don't see why they really hold any weight instead of a nice little logo on the website
anyway higher powered cars are easier to learn to drive standard. it has more power that you don't really need to feather the clutch/add gas as much as a low powered car, it'll just start moving by itself
my friend thought a 335i was so much easier to drive after learning manual on a miata lol

I'll play Devil's Advocate.
Despite you not knowing how to drive standard and the car has a pretty ugly and costly accident, just #YOLO.

The numbers don't look "bad" - somewhat normal and expected, I would say.
If you want it so bad, get it inspected. But keep in mind that if you buy it, the next person is going to be like and once they see the repairs. Otherwise, fuck what Revscene thinks and #YOLO.

If you really really like it, then buy it. Think about the pros and cons of upgrading from a 3 series though.

The fact it wasn't stated in the ad that the car was involved in an accident speaks volumes.
I would pass on the car and save up for a clean, no accident one. When it comes down to you selling it down the road, the accident will make it much harder to sell.

| BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU RATINGS MEAN NOTHING. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CONSUMER PROTECTION IN BRITISH COLUMBIA. IT IS UP TO YOU TO DETERMINE IF YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF OR NOT. IF YOU GET FOOLED BY SOME USED CAR SALESMAN THERE IS NO LAW TO PROTECT YOU
If a BBB "accredited" business sees their rating suffer as a result of a complaint they can pay a "fee" and get their A+ rating back. A BBB rating is not a good indicator of whether or not a car dealership will treat you fairly and be honest with you. Only word of mouth can do that. You took the right step by asking Revscene about this car and now that you've provided Revscene with information and they've responded, please listen to them. They don't know you well enough to want to lie to you.

You're right. But I'd still pass on the car due to the amount of damages.

a good portion of the repair bill is the cost of parts... look at the cost of one headlight unit!

I would personally stay away from older BMW's especially 5 & 7 series. There's a reason why they're dirt cheap because no one wants to buy them and get stuck with a expensive repair bill when things go haywire.

Call me crazy, but a 135i for under 20k? I don't think I'd give a fuck about the accident provided the car passed a third party inspection from a trustworthy source. I kinda want to see how much I could get for my gti as a trade in.

Say you save $5-7000 right now due to the accident claim (20-25% savings). When you resell the car, as long as you keep in mind how much less you paid because of the accident and price the car accordingly, there should be no problems. If you try to get clean market value when you sell the car, of course it will be much harder if not impossible.
Looking at the claims sheet, there's nothing that is really concerning assuming everything was repaired properly. The more important part is looking at what the damage was, instead of just freaking out at how much the damage was. I think there's a deal to be had here, if not because of people seeing the high claim amount and writing the car off because of it without further investigation

if you plan on keeping the car for the next 5-7 years then do it
if you plan on only keeping it for a short amount of time, then there's no resale value when you want to give the car up because most people will look at the accident total price rather than whats fixed, as mentioned in the post above
