Although this isn’t the first time we have spied the upcoming 2014 BMW 4 Series, it’s the first time we’ve seen the new car without any camouflage. These spy photos provide our clearest look yet at BMW’s newest two-door, which was previewed as a concept at the Detroit auto show.
The BMW 4 Series is really just the two-door version of the 3 Series sedan, but BMW has moved to even numbers for coupes and convertibles, necessitating the name change. The car was previewed in January as the Concept 4 Series, and very little has changed from that show car.
The 4 Series coupe spied here wears the same kidney grille, squinty headlights, and brash taillights with LED strips as its sedan progenitor. The sharp crease that runs from the front to the rear fender and intersects the door handle, as well as the unique scallop vent behind the front wheel, carry over from the concept to this production model. (The vent is called the Air Breather and will improve aerodynamic performance.) The lower fascia of this 4 Series, however, has more pronounced and sportier openings for the foglights than on a standard 3 Series sedan.
A leaked order guide tells us that in the U.S., BMW will offer the new coupe in both 428i and 435i configurations. The former uses a 240-hp, 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, while the 435i gets a 300-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Rear-wheel drive is standard but xDrive all-wheel-drive models are available. The BMW 4 Series coupe will go into production this July. BMW will also start building a 4 Series convertible in November, although the droptop will only be available with rear-wheel drive when it arrives in America next year.
BMW has yet to announce when it will officially introduce the 4 Series, but we should see it before production begins in July.

Not sure about the rest of you, but the entire rear end and quarter panel/C pillar area remind me of the A5.

I love it.. :fullofwin:

Disclaimer: I am a bmw fanboy

impactX 03-22-2013 05:50 PM

That thing looks heavy.

Harvey Specter 03-22-2013 05:55 PM

Sexy looking car indeed but mind you the current e92 doesn't look too bad.

a00755836 03-22-2013 05:57 PM

looks better than a 6 series.

k2damax 03-22-2013 05:59 PM

Looks like the 5 & 6 series.

Energy 03-22-2013 07:54 PM

Nice. I wish they kept the concept tail lights though.

It looks like an evolution of the E92. Not as drastic a change as E46 to E92.

when does F82 convertibles come out? screw amg :drool

but 435i gets a 300-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six and M4 tri-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six... not so impress with that idea

HonestTea 03-22-2013 09:43 PM

Not bad...not bad!

CorneringArtist 03-22-2013 10:11 PM

inexplicable 444i to weed out the c-lai? :troll:

Looks rather good though!

ilvtofu 03-22-2013 10:39 PM

Long hood short deck
A pillar looks really curvy makes the car look kinda tall

Marshall Placid 03-22-2013 10:45 PM

Looks good.

Thanks OP.

I noticed the 2 rear exhaust are small... maybe smaller than the current 3 series coupe.

I compared it to the concept 4 series here:

2014 BMW 4-series Coupe Concept – News – Car and Driver

The exhaust is a huge change from concept to production...

Just wish it had a tad little bit more differentiation from the new 3 series sedan.

But all in all, a good looking car.

I didn't like the e92 when it came out, but have come to love certain incarnations of it (m3, 335is) I assume it will be the same here. I don't understand the name change though. Why throw away the lineage that made the car so loved? It feels weird saying I want an m4.

It is weird that there's no 3 series coupe, now it's a 4 series but I think it's more of a marketing ploy by BMW. I would personally preferred if they had left it the 3 series coupe but oh well it's still going sell like hot cakes.

E-SPEC 03-24-2013 08:06 AM

Looks good.

Ludepower 03-24-2013 11:15 AM

Like the infinity fx...not a fan of the fender scoops...leaves those to the super cars where its actually functional.
