Most GT500 owners do not track their car, neither do ZL1 owners. Most owners are not capable of pushing their cars to its max abilities. I also think its silly to buy a car 100% based on magazine specs. You really have to test drive it to know.
I owned a Boss 302 Laguna Seca, and I have a GT500 on order. Before I bought my Mustangs, I looked at the ZL1 and actually test drove it. I came out feeling it was a great car, but the GT500 just felt slightly better in every way. Since most people, realistically don't track their cars, and since I don't plan on it, the GT500 was the better choice. Both the ZL1 and GT500 are prone to heatsoak, so neither are really a good choice for the track anyhow.
My gut feeling is, the Z28 will be faster then the GT500 on the track but it will cost the same as a new Z06. I don't know about you, but I rather have the Z06.... | So around the 1 track the mustang was designed based on, its faster on. Fair enough. Ive driven both mustangs and just not a fan. I prefer the magnetic ride in the zl1 or the vette, feels more stable on every day roads as well.
Also there is no way in hell a new z06 will come in the same price as the z28. The new c7 in base model form is going to cost around the 59K mark, and the z51 package costing a few k more. Considering the outgoing c6z is now going for about 75k for a basic packaged 2013, i dont see the c7 being any cheaper than that. Expect a 1lz to be 80+

All I have to say is:
Holden Monaro-based
Independent
Rear
Suspension.
So this is going to be inherently better to drive than a Mustang whether you drive it at 100% or 10% of its capabilities. That prospect blows the Mustang out of the water already.

I know the current pricing, because I was looking at one a few months ago.

The Mustang is on its own platform and weighs much less:
Curb weight: 3666 lb -- Mustang Boss 302
Curb weight: 3,852 lb-- '13+ GT500 Coupe
Curb weight: 4120 lb -- Camaro ZL1 (Weighs the SAME as a Ford Crown Vic cop car!)
It may have IRS, but its still a porker. Weight is the enemy. |

Considernig the new z28 will weigh in at 300lbs less than the ZL1 i dont see it being an issue.

a BMW M5 is heavier at 4288lb, and it's got impeccable handling, I don't see an issue.

You can feel the weight in turns. Reducing weight in a car increases fuel economy, reduces tire wear, increases handling and makes it quicker. The M5 is still a heavy car.
Even with 300 pounds off the heavy Camaro, it will weigh as much as the GT500 and still not as light as the Boss 302. Most of the complaints of the Camaro is the weight, and you can feel it in turns. I test drove a ZL1 and I felt it. In my Boss 302, it was a non-issue.
Nonetheless, the Camaro Z28 should be interesting. I think it a little late, imo.
I wonder if the issues with the LS7 will be fixed on the Z28, lol

This has got to be my favorite looking new car so far, mainly because of the exterior updates. I like that the taillights look more like the original Camaro, the headlights don't look as bulky either.

your talking like a GT500 is some lightweight track machine. I'd much rather have magnetic shocks and IRS for the track or the street then 75 HP and a bit less weight.

The suspension does not get all the whiz-bang magnetic ride stuff from the ZL1, but specially tuned springs and shocks. This was done to cut weight as well as help better tune and separate the Z/28 from its supercharged sister car.

I didn't buy a GT500 because its good on a race track, most people don't either. It does hold its own pretty well though. I bought it because it is lightning fast on streets. And for 2k in mods, 700RWHP is possible and still manageable.
Anyways, I am interested when the real specs come out. The Camaro VS Mustang battle is getting pretty heated |

The tops cars in Grassroots Motorsports ultimate track car competition use Nascar chassis with different bodies. They use a truck arm rear suspension.

If youve ever driven a solid axle vehicle hard you know how upset the rear suspension can get from hitting even a small bump.
that said im not a huge camaro fan i think GT vs SS the mustang is better. i just think if youre spending 65k+ and have 550+ HP then you should get decent handling as well
