Is the pain sudden? Or like a chronic dull pain?

So looks like I got 2 kidney stones! It was during a body check up I did an ultra sound (doctor though I had fatty livers but turns out they are fine). From the ultra sound they find 2 kidney stones on my left kidney. Went to a specialist and did a CT scan. The one big stone is about 1.5cm and the small one is tiny. The specialist said the big stone are too big to use the the wave the crush it into little piece for me to pee out. Also leaser won't work coz again is too big.
So I have to do a surgery where they are going to drill a tiny hole right under my left rib cage and suck the stones out. I will be full under but I am wondering after the surgery how painful it will be? How long should I take off work to recover? I am hoping to take 3 to 4 days off coz I don't really want to use my vacation days lol. I am most likely going to be drinking liquid only for the first week or so. Doctors don't know what cause it but base on my past eating habits is could either be I don't drink enough water or all the junk food I have eaten in the past......
Edit I also don't feel any pain at all. I do experience back pain from time to time or once awhile I would wake up in the middle of night wanting to puke.

It's personally and confidential, just tell them you need sick days / recovery days. Doctor can write you up for a week (5 business days. If they ask, esp. those mofo nosey co-workers, it's none of their business.
Take the time to just relax.
Sad to tell you, the hospital will want you out like asap. You'll most likely go stay over a night; all in all, you should be able to recover and do normal activities in about 2 / 3 days.
You will lose about 10 lbs in the whole process; due to water weight and eating. Hospital food is not good and you're just there wanting to sleep thru recovering time the next few days.

When I went to check my kidneys for stomach pain. Doctor told me that kidney stones hurts more than a heart attack. Luckily I tested negative.

Most likely my wife and parents will bring me soup so no hospital soups for me!
I am kinda of hoping for the weight lose coz of it. Hopefully I will cut back on how much I eat afterwards as well. I just don't want to take so many days off so I can save them for vacations.

Surgery is good. Left the hospital next day. However, they attach a tube on the back of the Kidney. I think they kept it there in case a 2nd surgery is needed so they don't have to cut me open again.
Peeing is super painful right now and is a mix of blood. Haven't poo yet though. Overall felt pretty good.

Overall felt pretty good. | yup, the antibotics will help. the pooping, well, your body was in shut down mode trying to recover so it does take time. Also, you gotta eat and build up your system again. Lastly, walking around and getting back to exercising will ehlp out with the pooping asap. people who just stay in bed all day will take forever.
Glad you're doing ok!
