If you want a something fun to drive, get a Miata...if you wanna go lighter, faster and mid-engine with less driving aids, go with the Elise. It's still a lot cheaper than 911, Cayman or Boxster.
If you want something bigger, get a 370Z for a fraction of price.

Man, When a new porsche comes out, I dont know whats the difference is, besidies the taillight... haha
The body and headlights all look the same pretty much.. some slight differences in the bumpers and of course the engine... But thats what makes a porsche, A Porsche..

TBH, GTR is nothing short of an engineering masterpiece. To be able to push those kind of performance within that price range is simply an amazing job done.
How many cars in production can beat GTR? Only a handful at easily 3x the price.
How many car in production can smoke a GTR? Honestly, nothing within 10x the price of a GTR.
911 Turbo, however, is all about performance AND class. Would you drive a GTR or a 911 Turbo to a golf club?

because people buy 911s for the trunk space...
it's obvious Timpo has never been in a Porsche.
and you can fit your clubs in the backseats of a 911. screw golf anyway.

I actually drove a GT-R, a 2013...
My impressions of it were:
-Very stiff suspension
-Interior nothing to write about.
-Seats are excellent
-Visibility is poor
-Trunk opening is horrible, and limited space inside the trunk
-It felt boring. All you have to is set launch control and let the car do the rest.
-Too much electronics imo, takes away from the driving experiance
-Paddles are fun for a bit, but I miss a manual transmission.
-Styling is dull. Only colour I liked the GT-R in is red.
-It has NO issue putting the power down at all.
-Very heavy and you can feel the weight through turns.
Ended up buying a more engaging car then the GT-R and have no regrets. The GT-R is amazing though, just wasn't for me. |
uh oh the couple are having a fight.

That said i think the 911 turbo and GTR is a perfectly valid comparison. you cant just say that a 911 is a different class and is too fancy to compare to a GTR.
911 turbo has always been about high technology so you cant just say the GTR is cheating with its high tech.

911 turbo has always been about high technology so you cant just say the GTR is cheating with its high tech. | haha, better to have fifteen thousand posts fewer than thousands of shitty ones
That said, I have always been a big fan of the GT-R and the technology that it possesses, from its prototype all the way up to the current production model; the way it has reportedly broken the lap record on the 'Ring and how Porsche accused Nissan of cheating.. It's what they never expected to happen and it's what made the GT-R a very popular topic of discussion.
I think because of the way that the GT-R has brought itself up over the last five years while being under the constant scrutiny of other manufacturers and how it can perform just as well as their higher performance models with equivalent technology and lower curb weight (especially Porsche) is one of the main reasons why the 911 and the GT-R has always been a great comparison; vehicle class and sticker price may not always be the important thing in such a case

| FFS, the GT-R versus 911 Turbo comparison has been going on since the debut of the GT-R. People who purchase a 911 aren't going to care about its downfalls and people who purchase a GT-R aren't going to care about the advantages a 911 has over a GT-R. Seeing people comparing these two for the past 5 years has really become a bore. Next please.

you guys realize the gtr and porsche are around the same price right? (base gtr is more than a base porsche / spec v is the same as a turbo)
and specs are similar and performance is similar... what's the surprise that they're being compared?
wth is this talk about class... you gotta be fucking kidding... porsches are taxis and grocery getters in europe... class? lol real people from money (not new money) couldn't give a crap they just buy what they like why bring this illusion of class into the comparison of cars? this is a car forum not some fucking stuck up girly fashionista website

Porsche 911 buyers are in a different league and unfortunately majority of them don't give a rats ass if a Nissan is .5 seconds faster off the line or has 15 more hp, it all comes down to the badge and the prestige factor.

anyway when you guys argue whether or not 911 owners care about how much of a bargain the GT-R is, you're both right.
that's because there are 2 types of people who buy a 911 (turbo or not).
people who care about track and performance in general
and people who want a nice car because they either like the looks, prestige, brand, etc
my friend who had a 996 turbo tracked it at mission was definitely impressed with the GTR, and was tempted to get it, especially when his friend got a great condition one for around $60k.
another friend who's parents bought them a 997 turbo s recently, couldn't give a rats ass if the GT-R did 0-100 in 2.9 or whatever. it just doesn't matter to them. it's all about rolling around in a porsche. which sounds better than rolling around in a nissan.
plus when it comes down to it, if you're not gonna track it, do you really care if a car does 0-100 in 2.8 or 2.9? no, you don't. does it matter if it has 600hp or 550hp? no it doesn't. (just pulling these numbers out of my ass btw)
the difference is, the 911 owner and GT-R owner both know that if the 911 owner wanted a GT-R, they could have had one. but the same can't be said of the GT-R.
so yeah. both arguments are right in their own way, because there are 2 different kinds of people who buy 911s.
