Whistler - things to do?
 

Planning a get-away with the gf and was wondering if whistler offered any of the following:

- place to watch a sunrise
- a couples activity such as tandem bike or atv
- an easy but good hiking trail

welcome all other suggestions :)

in for this too! going with my gf as a couples getaway at the end of may :)

Zip lining.

Followed by:

Restaurant touring (where you visit 4 awesome restaurants - I think... Araxi, Hy's, and Quattro and a few more forgot) and you eat a few small dishes in each restaurant. Pretty fun!

Zip lining is awsome!

Make sure you do the newer set of lines with the largest run its insane!

Get a room in the village. Go have dinner at araxi. Go have some drinks and pop a Molly at maxx fish.go Back to the hotel.Get it the hot tub smoke joint/followed by line.Pop a Viagra and fuck.

Go snowboarding!!!! Theres still snow and its so fun when its warm.

Go just past whistler and stop at nairn falls just before pemberton. At the end of the path when you get to the observation area which will be on your left, keep walking ahead and just look right. You will find a gate that says no entry, danger, you will die etc. Take them seriously, but if you feel like it, hop it and climb up the hill AWAY from the waterfall. Up at the top of the hill there is a big wide open area where you can chill out at the top of the falls. STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE EDGE, but there is tons of room up top with the most amazing view while still being safe. I believe it it CP Rail property, so technically you could get in shit, but its pretty much one of the most beautiful sights you will see in your life. Heres the sign.

Its about 100 feet if you fall, down rocks, into a pounding waterfall. You will not just die, but super die. Stay the fuck away from the edge. Seriously. That being said there is tons of room to really enjoy it up there without dying.

Looking at going up to whistler for a weekend anyone have a recommendation for a decent but cheap hotel that would fit 6 people?

they manage owner owned properties that sleep 2-4 ppl. they might have some 6 person rooms. units are equipped with kitchens. rooms are pretty standard and nothing fancy. stayed at Deer Lodge 2nd floor. heard the clubbers stumble home late night but it's all in good fun.

also try VRBO, AirBNB and AlluraDirect for vacation rentals.

Going in January for 3 days and I have no clue what to do! Maybe snow shoeing? Do I have to do those $100 guided ones out can we just head out with some snow shoe rentals? My friend said something about tubing. He also recommended getting a lift pass before the 15th because it's on sale. What can I do with that? Would like to try skiing or snow boarding but it seems really expensive with rentals and lessons. Any tips on fun things to do without spending too much money would be appreciated.

I would suggest not wasting your money to learn skiing or snowboarding in whistler. You just cant take advantage of any of the terrain while inevitably spending most of the day on your ass. However, snowboarding IMO is very easy to pick up if you are athletic. Take a couple lessons at seymour before you go and you may have enough of the basics to really enjoy yourself exploring whistler. I'm not sure if ziplining is open in the winter but thats a pretty fun time if it is.

Dinner tours at night (Bearfoot Bistro if I remember correctly has a huge wine cellar, part of one of the dinner tours package).

Spa/massage/etc. for non-skiing time.

Tandem sled downhill (were a skiier rides behind you, and you sit on a small sled).

Snowmobiles.

• The newer set of Ziplines in Whistler are "Superfly Ziplines". The winter tour includes a snowcat ride up Rainbow mountain, and then you zip four lines to the base. The first two lines are the longest lines in Canada, 1.2 and 1.3km long. Superfly Ziplines

• Snowshoeing is offered right on Whistler Mountain with The Adventure Group. You can add the Peak-2-Peak pass to your snowshoe tour (for a way discounted rate). Please don't waste your money on the snow limo thing. If you are at all interested in exploring the mountain or learning to ski or board, as westopher said hit up one of the three local mountains for some lessons, and by the time you get up to whistler you can have a blast seeing the mountain. You won't be a pro by any means but you will certainly be able to navigate the mountains and have a blast.

Skiing/snowboarding is honestly the greatest sport, there is nothing quite like it. I think everyone should atleast give it a shot, as westopher pointed out you spend atleast your first day on your ass, so whistler is not the place to be learning (unless you like wasting 100 bucks). Learn locally (its much cheaper) then have fun up at whistler.

Everything else, like zip lining, and whistler bungie (I don't think its open in the winter), all those activities are great, and if all else fails, just walking around the village with a coffee and good company can be a great time as well. Whistler is a magical place during the winter.

This. Living in this city and not taking advantage of the incredible riding we have so close to us is like going to the strippers and not getting a lap dance. Winter goes from being the 4-5 months you want to blow your brains out from boredom (the one year I couldn't ride due to injury I really wondered what people do in the winter) to the most exciting time of the year.

Yup, I broke my wrist early in the season 2 years ago, and was out for all of January. By the time I didn't feel pain anymore which was almost right at the beginning of february I was up on the hill even with my arm still in a cast. People thought I was crazy, but the truth was that I was going out of my tree not being able to ride...

I haven't been snowboarding in quite some time but in terms of that powder feel, if you haven't gone snowmobiling it's quite the pleasure as well

I'd say sitting up top the pemberton glacier on a blue bird day takes the cake for me

Snowmobiling is dope, but if people think skiing and boarding is expensive, then sledding is definitely a whole new ball game. Sleds can cost as much as a a new car these days, and dragging the damn thing around and managing the time to get out of vancouver up to squamish or pemby is really hard.

oh for sure, skiing and boarding is definately much more feasible, and wayyy safer to see the sights lol, IMO snowmobiling is about a dangerous sport as there is out there

and yea, brand new Ski doo's are running 11-13k, and a vehicle to tow it

The dinner + wine tours are quite worth it...amazing 4 hour experience.

Bump! Can anyone suggest some good restaurants, besides Araxi? I'm looking into going to Bearfoot Bistro, but looking at some reviews on Yelp, its scary how many people say the food is bad and service is overbearing. TIA!
