quads vs dirt bikes
 

so I finally got up to stave this weekend...wanted to play in mud so bad but I traded my old lifted 4x4 on swampers for a nice pretty new truck.

ive seen how much lift kits are for my truck...along with swampers...steel bumpers...skid plates etc.

so I was thinking about what if I got a quad or a bike..what would be a good starting point? how many cc's would be enough to have fun???

im 6'0, 170lbs. I have a motorcycle so im very comfortable on bikes. but ive never abused one like ive seen other riders do while on the flats. ive also never riden a quad before, and it has an appeal to it like being able to strap a small cooler onto it, leave the truck at the flats, have the gf jump on the back, and rip it up a trail and have some beers in a completely remote area.

so anyone have any suggestions as to what you guys have found better between quads or bikes?

When you say quad, do you mean a racing quad or an actual ATV. If you are going quad i would say a 450+ would be some good fun. But if you are wanting an ATV i would say 600 at least.

Dirt bike you can go a lot more places and it you can always wear a back pack to take some drinks or food if need be.

Personally i prefer ATV's or a quad for the comfort and utility of it.

But at the end of the day i would take both for a boot and see what you prefer. Both can fit in the back of your F150 as well.

yeah, atv is what I meant lol.

I watch them rip around at stave lake like nothing can stop them. throw them in 4x4 and hit a trail or mud etc.

but 600cc is a good place to start?

just from looking at craigslist, im seeing them say how many hours are on them...whats too high?

I have an 03' kodiak 450. I love it. I'm 240 pounds and its got more then ample power to haul me around. I got the rear seat on it to and it carries me and my GF or daughter with ease. Remember the bigger the machine the harder the stuck and the more costly the fix. Mines got 5000km's on it with no major breakage and no rebuilds but ridden hard.

perfect, just what I needed to know, if a 450 is enough for you, then its more then enough with me lol. I plan on riding it hard through mud/stave flats, and take it up some trails and what not.

any brand names I should be avoiding?

I've got a can am renegade 800HO. V-twin efi.8K rev limiter 117km.Top speed.go big or go home. i'm 5 8" 140lbs. Btw you can't drink on a motorbike.:D
