WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A group of drivers wasn’t expecting to make it on RCMP’s Air One camera as they sped along the Sea to Sky Highway.

It was a call from Squamish RCMP that resulted in several cars being taken off the road.

The police chopper followed eight cars said to be travelling in excess of 140 kilometres an hour along Highway 99 near Furry Creek.

Constable Jeff Palmer with West Vancouver Police Department says officers later greeted the group with a roadblock at Eagleridge Drive.

“All eight vehicles were safely stopped at the roadblock. The drivers were served immediate seven day excessive speed impounds of their vehicles and all drivers were served violation tickets for excessive speed.”

Six of the drivers are from Vancouver, one is from Richmond and the other from Surrey. The drivers range in age from 21 to 25 years-old.

Palmer says all of the cars appeared to have high performance modifications.

Five of the vehicles are Nissan 240SX models ranging from 1989 to 1997 model years. Police also impounded a 1989 Nissan Skyline, a 1992 Toyota MKII and a 2000 Acura Integra.

Below is the Air One video.

Recently I just drove the Sea to Sky to Whistler for the first time...and oh boy this road is like a track itself. I can see why people like to speed up and down the highway.

Really? Your first time driving the highway was recently? You poor man...the old Sea to Sky before the Olympic "improvements" was much better, IMHO.
