Leg Muscle Spasms

Have anyone here received random muscle spasms? I am getting them from time to time when doing jiu jitsu and while sleeping. I notice that only my calfs is receiving spasms and they hurt like a bitch haha.

Anything I can do to prevent them from the future?? 6am moaning of a huge spasm isn't fun :okay:

radioman 05-17-2013 10:11 PM

Verdasco 05-17-2013 10:12 PM

i fucking screamed "FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK" :fuuuuu: when the cramps woke me up at 6 am today...

this has happened to me a multiple times, although very rarely
i find that stretching, water, and bananas help

I've been getting them all my life since I was young, not as much now though however. I usually put some muscle and joint cream and it gets a bit better but you just have to wait till it goes away.

^ same as this guy. my gf always bitches at me " i told you to drink more water " LOL

Cassijon 05-18-2013 01:02 AM

you're probably dehydrated and lacking in potassium. 8 glasses of water and a banana a day should do the trick

This.

Watch your diet. Eat and drink water regularly (small snacks like dried fruits, nuts, apples, bananas, granola bar etc.) Keep this up for 2 weeks+ and you'll notice results.

I get the same problem when I'm hammering the cranks and pedals on my bike rides. If I don't have a banana or I don't hydrate well in advance, I get cramps like no tomorrow and it happens always in fucking Yaletown where the girls are hot and they look at you like this > :derp:

Don't pull a bcrdukes. It'll cramp your style. (Pun intended.)

Kidnapman 05-18-2013 02:33 PM

lol for a second I thought muscle spasm just meant a sudden involuntary movement of your leg which I do get sometimes. Always thought muscle spasm was just called a cramp. But anywho, yeap you aren't alone, I also get it from time to time and it's usually just out of no where without any rigorous activities. I only get it on the bottom of my foot, only time i've ever cramped up my calf was in a pool and it was ridiculously stupid... I think the guys above me got it all covered, just drink water and you should be good, tho it didn't really help for me.

I think people are using the term "muscle spasm" and "cramp" interchangeably. The only way to decipher what the person is talking about is based on their description.

Try introducing more potassium rich foods into your diet.

Drink water.

I also like to foam roll.

Razgriz 05-18-2013 05:03 PM

Like others said water,

But if it does happen I find massaging it helps, it does hurt more but it helps. Kind of like rubbing a bruise.

Armind 05-18-2013 05:43 PM

Hate this shit, literally went super saiyan in the middle of my sleep when this shit used to happen lol.

bcrdukes 05-18-2013 07:14 PM

Had my banana, drank plenty of water and went for a ride - didn't cramp. All dem ladies be like :ahwow: in Yaletown today as I rock my Rapha jeans, rolled up to flash dat pink seam, rollin' on the that classic Cinelli Gazetta della Strada in style.

But really, the truth is...
Spoiler!

Drink more water and eat a banana! :)

ProBoostin 05-18-2013 07:54 PM

lot of water, spasms and cramps usually happen from dehydration and a banana helps too

dvdjels 05-23-2013 06:21 PM

Not trying to start an argument, but can someone tell me how potassium or bananas actually help prevent or relieve muscle cramps. I have a hard time making that connection. I hear it from a lto of other people as well so there must be some merit to this lol.
