imo they are border line complementary players right NOW

they arent going to get us to a final, others will have to do the hard work to get us back, so where does that leave them?

lol @ typical Canucks fan "BUT THE PLAYOFFS!!!" fuck the playoffs, we need to contend not toil around in the middle with a couple of soft bitches who get raped in the playoffs, we need players to assume their top line role and they need to fall back into the complementary roll because as it is, we arent even close to getting back to the finals.

pathetic.

Don't think I did. They're involved in creating offense. Whether it's them putting the puck in the net or if they're setting it up, doesn't matter. A goal is a goal.

I wasn't aware that complementary players constantly led the team in scoring?

Fuk guyz, better trade them away and hope Dale Weise can step up as a goal per game player!!!

As I've said before, amongst the western conference contenders who are an easier tandem to play against than the Sedins?

God damnit.. really?

I dunno.. maybe some other team that entered the playoffs with a non-existant second line due to injury, and had practically zero talent thereafter in their bottom 9 forwards. Pretty easy to shut down a 1 line team in the NHL especially come playoff time I'd say.

These two guys have averaged like 83 points EACH per season for the last 6 years leading up to the lockout. Can you really say that the Sedins are an easy tandem to play against?

Personally, I disagree. I'm not trying to be a fanboi either, I simply think there are other more glaring deficiencies that have hindered the Nucks the last two seasons than the Sedins.

- Edler has not developed as quickly in to a top 2 defensemen as predicted.
- Bieksa having an off year last year. Let's be real, it was a fire drill a lot of nights this past season on the blue line. Without Hamhuis, our D was pretty terrible last year.
- $6 mill in cap space sitting a bench warmer all of last season, GM inability to move him.
- Derek Roy was a swing and miss.
- Shutting down Malhotra... really not having a 3rd center that could have slid up to #2 with Kesler's absense.
- Let's not even get in to special teams coaching and predictability of the Canucks on the PP.

A million excuses I know.. Sedins not in my top 5 reasons.

/rant off.

yup, hodgson's numbers dropped off significantly after vanek got injured. He's stealing that money from Buffalo.

The Sedins are amoung the top players in the league, without question. And if you question that, you don't really know much about hockey imo.

Though, I think when you've been a Canucks fan for this long, you have to pick apart the team as much as possible because anything less than the cup at this point is failure. I'd rather have some good ol' fashion Canadian boys rounding out our top line, but it is what it is. If it doesn't happen this year, I think a rebuild is in order and the only way that happens is if we get rid of the Sedins, whom I love to death. To me, it's a lose lose situation.

The window of opportunity for the Canucks to win a Cup is very small. How small? I say this upcoming season is the window.

-uncertainty about whether the Sedins will get a new contract.

-What happens with Luongo after the winter Olympics and the season end? -hard to read what he feels about coming back to the team. He has not said anything publicly about being happy to be back as the no. 1 goalie.

So many question marks about this team and the coaching staff. -probably one of the most intriguing seasons for a Canucks fan in a long time.

We say that every year.

I'm actually with Hondaracer on this one. (At least for me personally)The Sedins have never been a question about skill, but always have been a question about heart.

We can keep trading or altering the personel in our bottom line pluggers (who probably will play 5 to 10 minutes at best - possibly even considerably less in the play offs, or in games where we're behind), and really, you've not changed much about the team dynamic.

I'm also not a fan of the team philosophy either where losses recently just seem very ho-hum. Following this team for as long as I can remember, it's sad to observe that the fans themselves have wayyy more emotional investment in the hockey games than the players themselves, more often than not. Although I may not be in the room so I can only judge from the outside, I'm willing to guess that it's the leadership that's the culprit of this effect; which again the question mark goes back to the Sedins.

Honestly, I love the Sedins as people. Great players, great for the local community. It's just that I wish their game had a Mr. Hyde in their Dr. Jekyll. But considering how long we've been following them, I'm not holding my breath. It's just not who they are.

i disagree with this being their last season to compete, i dont even think its their best chance. id say their best probability is the 2015-16, 2016-17season. the only key ufa/rfas from now to then would be the sedins, tanev, hansen, kassian, corrado. both kassian and corrado's contracts would be bridge deals, so still relatively cheap. the cap is also supposed to rise to an upper limit of 80mil by the 2016-17 season. thats roughly a 5.3mil boost every year. that basically means the canucks have 10.6mil extra in cap space to re-sign those players, booth is also gone that year so + another 4.25. 15.5mil. the sedins may even take a discount on their next contract, so that could rise. in 2 years, horvat, gaunce, shinkaruk could all be nhl ready, id also say in 2 years time from now the sedins, even if regressing should still be 2nd line players, consistent of 60pts. could have the makings of a deep team for 1 or 2 years.

It's already gone... the team is getting weaker and weaker each season.
If the 2011 roster is the benchmark for a cup contending team, we're so far from that.
Our team doesn't even look good on paper anymore.

#canucks asked to run 2 miles in 12 mins or less. 3 were able to do it. Daniel, Henrik and Santorelli. Santorelli edged out twins by 2secs.
The Sedins are very gifted athletes on the team. The led in team scoring every year.

That being said, you can how good the Sedins are when the game is called correctly. None of the punching in the face and not get a penalty. None of the hooking and grabbing. Look at how they performed in the World Championship this year.

I hope Kassian gets to play with them and hopefully allow the Sedins to play their game.

The bigger issue is the bottom 6, rather than top 6.
er... maybe "bottom 9" now?

No team can make a deep playoff run with just 1 line.
It will get shut down. Doesn't matter which star players are used.
The scoring depth needs to expand.

All the good teams that make it far have a solid top 6.
AS WELL, as 3rd line guys that can chip in goals,
often one of them being the wild card scorer of the playoffs.

Also, playoff stats in past 5 years:
Daniel 53 GP / 49 pts
Henrik 56 GP / 54 pts

They are still generating a good amount of points.
Good enough for being top line that gets mauled by the opponent's top pairing D-men.

Sure, I did notice Daniel hasn't scored a playoff goal in the past 2 seasons, so that is a bit of a concern.
But I think the bigger priority is getting a stronger 2nd and 3rd line, not replacing the Sedins.
