Of course I'm biased, we all are in one way or another. It's not like I said Kessel was innocent or undeserving of his suspension.
If Kessel turtled there the next week of highlights would be showing a "pussy" Kessel turteling while needing his team mates to defend him, while stick work is over the line I think Kessel of all people probably wants to save face a little as his image already is one of a wimp Posted via RS Mobile
The thing is, he DID need his teammates to defend him. And then he decided to take another swing and a poke at the guy. Anybody would understand why a goal scorer would turtle against a guy who has 8" and 80lbs on you. Instead the image he's given himself now is of a stick swinging little twat instead of just a wimp.

Scott may just realize his outmatched fighting opponent won't simply take a beating, turtle, or run away, but will defend himself and inflict whatever damage he can in the process. Sometimes just the threat of greater violence is enough to prevent conflict. Kessel went a little too far with that message, and so he sits. The punishment fits the crime.
That is a horrible message if he's really thinking "Next time you jump me I'll slash your face." Since when was using your stick as a weapon, even for self defense, an accepted practice? I see where you're coming from, but being allowed to defend yourself with your stick is worse than all the headshots that we see IMO.

Yet Kessel's suspension is not the vacation people are making it out to be. Instead of being able to build chemistry on the ice with his teammates to get the season rolling, Kessel sits. It makes it more difficult for Carlyle to create line combos and work on his PP without his main offensive threat there. One of Carlyle's strategies is the lack of set lines. He obsessively line matches and mixes up his lines on the fly to keep opponents guessing. Not having Kessel there, hinders that strategy.
I'll call BS on that. In an 82 game season that doesn't really mean anything (especially if you're don't make the playoffs ), 3 lost preseason games will mean absolutely nothing. He's still allowed to skate and practice with the team and prospective linemates. If he were playing all 3 of those preseason games, odds are half of them would be against guys who won't be spending real time in the NHL this season anyways.
Shanahan's a tool when it comes to making any sense in his decisions.
He even made note of two similar stick swinging incidents when Kessel was chopping away in a Flyers' game.
Great way of sending a message that reckless stick swinging (irresponsibility of your stick) will punish you for games that don't matter.
Oh wait... didn't someone else just get a big suspension for being irresponsible for his stick?

Pretty sure the guy is way more eager than we are to get back on the ice.. considering he couldn't do jack with a bum ankle he had to rehab..
It's that time of year when everyone pushes themselves so they can return to top form.. so all jokes aside I don't think it should be that surprising he's playing in regards to the tweak from practice
I remember reading that Booth's upper body got super buff since he couldn't do anything with his ankle. He was like 240 lbs? and now has gotten back down to 220?!?!
Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!
