Shanahan's suspension of Edler is complete bullshit. It was a clean hit from the shoulder.
Hertl just turtles but putting his head down, to put himself in a vulnerable position. He was focussed solely on the puck.-probably didn't even seen Edler coming at him. A rookie mistake.
Gotta protect the star players. And he's the new star player as of recent.
So the message sent to the rookie is to keep your head down and lunge for the puck in the neutral zone.
in b4 Hertl does this again thinking it's okay, and a legit dirty player sends him to the hospital.

Botchford is a fucking moron and so are Sekeres and Price for defending him (if you didn't hear them on 1040 earlier today belittling Jeff O'Neill, ex-NHLer and current TSN analyst, you should; it's disgusting).
This is something you would expect out of a tabloid journalist, not a sports reporter. It's the same reason why you don't have your cameraman shooting shots of the players below the waist in the dressing room. It's unethical and in poor taste.
Truth or not, it came across as discrediting to me. That's why I facepalmed. If you didn't mean it that way, well, sometimes that happens when people read other people's comments.
I don't mean to nitpick, but he has scored 40 goals.. so technically, he is. However, I do agree he's probably never going to do it again.
I think Kes goes to those areas just as well as Burr does myself...
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is, overall, (not directed at you) people seem to quickly turn their backs on players who have done so much for the organization. I can name a bunch of players Canucks' fans have turned their backs on, and I'm sure you could too. I guess I'm just loyal to a fault..
To clarify, Burrows is probably the only player on the team that is willing and consistently parks himself in front of the net every season, then get rocked after the whistle, and just get up, brush it off, when all the other guys already halfway to the bench.
Kesler dwells too much around the hashmarks/above the faceoff circle nowadays waiting for someone to hit him up or he just skates there and takes a shot. He could get away with it before but def not now.
I don't wanna shift it to a Burr vs Kes cause you really don't have one without the other, but you get consistent grit/physicality, less ego, willingness to adapt and a team player with Burr but Kes is an awesome leader who should turn it around. He had a slow start in 2011-2012 and got way better after the first month so.
There are people who do turn their backs against players, most casual fans have a "what have you done for me lately" attitude, while most of us here I'd think are just critical yet disappointed (but with an ounce of optimism) and praying for him to get it together.
And strong Edler suspension... slowly building that rap sheet.. he sucks when he doesn't play physical.....
inb4 my boy Alberts is penciled into the line-up again
Edler was a dirty shit when he hit Staal in the summer there.... but this?!
Has Shanahan completely forgotten about his days of scoring like 600 goals and what "separating the opposing player from the puck" means?!
It's all politics ...
Look at the LAK vs. STL series ... There was a hit like that in every game.
Rick Nash gets away with a flying elbow to the back of Kopecky's head while Hansen gets suspended for a far more innocent play on Hossa.
...
I could go on, but you get the point. The league has their favourite teams that seem to get away with everything unless it's so egregious that they need to do something, in which case they hand out a light suspension and hide behind some bullshit like "first time offender" ...
What angers me the most is the way the beautiful game of hockey is being managed by the idiots in New York.
Shanaban is a terrible discipilinarian. What do they want the NHL to stand for?
NHL = No Hitting League?
The problem with Shanaban is that he cannot tell the difference between a legal hit/incidental contact and an illegal hit/headshot. He is so out of touch with the game.
You make decisions on suspension based on the intent of the player, not on the extent of a player's injury.
Furthermore, remember when some GMs like Yzerman and Rutherford said that fighting should be banned from hockey after the George Parros incident?
Like many players in the game, I agree that there is a place in this sport not only for clean hits, but also fighting. We gotta have this stuff to make the game attractive to fans, and keep players honest.
If a goon knows that he's gonna get hit hard, or have to answer to an enforcer in a fight in response to a dirty hit, it just helps protect players in general, not just the star players. We need this as a deterrent.
This is ice hockey, not figure skating!!!

I really wish we get a player of ours replicate this but on the receiving end in the Montreal game and I can bet anything that there will be no suspension handed out to the opposing team.

Lol we don't even need to mention illegal hits from previous seasons... just fucking three days ago Stuart takes out Nash with a blatant elbow and now he's out at least 2 weeks and he got the same number as Edler. This is why you don't hire former players who are half retarded from the hits they may have taken in their career.
