Sad to see Vanek go, but it's time to move on, time to put my Vanek jersey in a frame and out of wear rotation. The Sabres are clearly rebuilding and the right thing to do was to move Vanek for picks. I wouldn't expect Moulson to be a Sabre too long, I think he gets flipped for more picks or prospects by the trade deadline.
Tavares and the Isles will love Vanek, one of the more underrated snipers in the game, he can carry a line all by himself and create scoring chances, he'll take a lot of pressure of Tavares. Great in the room and off ice too.
Sabres have an amazing prospect pool with Grigorenko, Ristolaninen, Larsson, Zadorov, Girgrensons, Pysyk, Armia, Compher, McNabb, Hackett and Flynn. Add to that a young core in Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno and Myers, with 2 first round picks this year and 2 second round picks, this sets up well long term.
Not sure how suspensions are handed out in this league.
Any less than 10 games will be a joke. Lucky the other guy was okay and came back a shift later. Cause the forearm made contact, not the elbow.
But the pure intent to injure is so dirty. You don't clean that shit early on, the kids grow up to be an even bigger scum later on.
On the other hand, the other guy delivered a clean hit, but then crosschecked Domi down, and then crosschecked Domi a second time while he was trying to get up.
They're both douchebags.

I do not think the islanders are as bad as everyone thinks they are. Granted they only made the playoffs in a shortened season, but they did quite well against pittsburgh. They added clutterbuck and nabokov will eventually settle in.
I don't think the issue is people thinking the Isles are bad - the issue is that it's a lateral trade. Vanek is not a huge upgrade to Moulson at this point in his career, and as I said previously, Moulson and JT have some good chem together. Furthermore, they also gave up a 1st and 2nd rounder for a possible rental player - herein lies the issue for me.

Vanek has always indicated that if an extension could not be worked out with Buffalo he would prefer to go to Minnesota, that's where he went to college and played NCAA hockey, where a lot of his friends are too.
He really preferred not to move his family and stay in upstate New York, but with the Sabres rebuilding they had to ship him out for future assets. The city of Buffalo is a lot like NJ and Detroit, gets a horrible rap as boring, old, industrial driven cities and not as exciting as other major NHL cities, but the surrounding areas like Amherst and other areas of upstate NY are extremely affluent and a lot of players current and retired love living and make their permanent homes there. Just like how New Jersey is a industrial/old/slow city, but the residential areas surrounding NJ are extremely affluent where many of the Devils, Rangers and even Flyers players live.
I don't think Dubinsky will be suspended. Koivu skated right into him. He was almost square to Dubi.
As for the Vanek trade, I like the trade for the Sabres. Is Miller next? That said, Vanek has hit the 40 goal mark twice and was on pace for 40+ last year. He should thrive with JT.
The deal gives Buffalo nine selections in the first two rounds of the next two drafts.
